Another Sushi place to add to the list: Naked Fish Sushi - Extensive sake selection, some fun menu items like the tempura cheesecake. Somewhat pricey but we went for Sushi Happy Hours (Mon-Thu. 5-6:30) - rolls just $3!

Slightly OT, but since we're talking Sushi, and the north side of the Lake isn't that far away... Hiro Sushi in King's Beach(?) is one of the best, anywhere this side of Nature....

There was a Taco place in SLT, near state line, next to a 7-11. I don't know the name (or if it is there). Really good tacos, simple but good. Never tried anything else. Is Sprouts still there? What is in the original AlpenSierra coffeehouse? I haven't been up there in 5 years.

the naked fish is killer sushi in SLT, great scene and super fresh fish. I always say don't eat raw fish if you cant see the ocean, but they do really great there...

Another vote for the Naked Fish! Free oddball sushi bomb shots, entertaining staff at the sushi bar, and great fresh food...

Way late on this, but...

Divided Sky is more than a bar and music. They have the best sandwiches in town and any sandwich can be turned into a salad. Also, awesome carrot cake.

Thai One On tastes better, Orchids is cheaper. (The Basil in Carson is better than both, but a bit out of the way.)

Sprouts is awesome.

Alpina is a better coffee shop than Alpen Sierra. They serve the same coffee but you don't have to put up with as many pretentious f*#knards.

Also just heard the farmer's market will be coming to Meyers.

Apparently Lakeside has good cheap mexican food, but I can't stand smoke so I haven't been.

On a similar topic.... ANY CLIMBING SHOPS OR CLIMBING GYMS IN TOWN? Didn't think so. WTF?

The Sports LTD at the Y closed. Even when it was open the only person who knew the difference between a static and dynamic rope was Jay. I asked for bolts and hangers one time and they sent me to the bike counter!!!

I hardly ever go to the Stateline Sports LTD. The one time I did I asked for a Gri Gri and they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I asked them to show me the belay devices and I would pick one out. They had no idea what I was talking about. I asked them to show me the climbing gear and they led me to a very small cramped corner of the store. They told me to come back when Jay was working. That was last summer... not even sure if Jay still works there.

For as cool as the climbing is in South Lake you'd think...

p.s. still trying to get enough people together to make a winter wall in a storage unit/garage/whatever happen. Currently all I have is this:

Not in South Lake proper but that german place down by Pollock Pines (Saint Pauli something?) is GOOD as is the breakfast joint in Silver Fork.

All locals know there area lot of marginal restaurants in SLT, but also some absolutely incredible ones.

Namely:

Orchids Thai - has to be one of the best thai places in california, i've had a ton and very few are on the same level with this place...can't seem to go a week without it.

Naked Fish Sushi - happy hour is amazing 5:00 - 6:30 mon-thurs , this is the ONLY place in town with good, city quality fish.

Los Mexicanos Taqueria - little known place on herbert ave, near ski run...has great everything, don't go to taqueria jalisco unless you enjoy burnt bad, americanized food and a stomach ache.

Burger Lounge - Incredible burgers and fries, soooo good.

Divided Sky - probably the only bar in town if you are into good beer (they have pliny the elder now!!) , and the sandwiches/salads are incredible...Brian's place kills it!

Of course, morning coffee @ Alpen sierra/Alpina cafe is a must.
