zb, i remember music appreciation class; but i didn't appreciate it as much back then (classical) as i do now. it grew on me from living with music students and being married to a cellist and oboist.
For A.L. who is going home (and not by helicopter).
Jimmy Vaughn et al ≈ Six Strings Down (Aaron Neville)
brandon,
i always considered the commander as "punk country"; which reminds me capt'n, aren't you due for a promotion? admiral or skully has a nice ring to it.
Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen ≈ Lost In The Ozone Again
Any of you LA folks see the punk band "X" a little back in the day. Their music always, and forever, gives me such stoke...I listen to them on my IPOD whenever I am on a ski lift.
By late spring of 2008 the original quartet had embarked upon its winkingly termed 31st anniversary tour, taking the band's complex yet direct musical fusion into a fourth decade with flair and energy. The continuing popularity and critical acclaim of Americana and roots music indicate that the core sound of X has really never gone out of style even as it has evolved away from pure punk. As such, this is a reunion that is particularly welcome in an age when so many other '80s artists of much greater prominence long ago exceeded their saturation points. Here's hoping appreciation for this great band continues to rise.
devotees of punk hung out at the Oki Dog - not far from the Sunset Grill, neither of which were too far from where I lived on Camino Palmero.
Tobia - "splitter, leo lyons?" yep! Leo Lyons original bass player for Ten Years After & still rockin' after all these years.
i figured someone wud discern that. here he is again with his current band HSS...
SCseagoat, yer a little late to the party. x comes up on ST about a dozen times a year.
Oki Dog was barely OK before a show but when it got rowdy, the owners used to juggle ketchup and mustard bottles to get the kid's minds off of beating each other up. Reminds me of this old LA classic....
Better to just get drunk and after the show head over to the Atomic Cafe......if you didn't mind waiting over an hour for your food after ordering.
got to get some franchise rights for the oki dog so i can put in between the sputnik & little joes. whisky, wine, pool and oki dogs; what else does a village need?
sort of. if you look at the picture of Little Joe's hard enough you can discern the hog wire (put up temporarily to keep the Molotov cocktails from getting through) during a localized riot.
lees,and joes. add a roy.
