No problem with accolades any Tom Waits material.

Aretha Franklin ≈ I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)

if you turn it up real loud it might draw d-know out.

"B" side:

Derek & The Dominos ≈ Have You Ever Loved A Woman

James Brown ≈ Something

(George Harrison's favorite cover (over 100 released) of his song.

James Brown ≈ Night Train

With foot dexterity like this, I would bet J.B. could have held the Nose speed record for at least a couple of years with the right partner.

↓I have the show he did in Boston on the night after MLK's death 5 April 1968

^My one and only live James Brown show was from that era and he did Night Train.

A part of the Leon Russell show I was chasing down yesterday - 1971

Steppenwolf .... July 2, 3, or 4, 1968 Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, California, U.S.A. - or Fillmore West August 27, 1968 - Who knows. Some controversy here.

This recording comes from the last Bill Graham 1960's show at the original Fillmore
Auditorium before he moved his shows to the Fillmore West. For three days on
July 2, 3, and 4, 1968, the line-up was CCR, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY and STEPPENWOLF.
This recording comes from one of those nights.
Set List:
01. Your Wall's Too High
02. Hootchie Kootchie Man
03. Born To Be Wild
04. Desperation
05. Tighten Up Your Wig
06. Disappointment Number (Unknown)> Lost And Found By Trial And
Error> Hodge, Podge, Strained Through A Leslie> Resurrection
07. Baby Please Don't Go
08. The Pusher

Chris Thomas King ≈ Watermelon Man

Maybe the best cut on that Leon show you were chasing... did you find the whole shebang? There used to be several cuts from it on youtube; but they don't stay up.

Leon Russell ≈ A Song For You

Tobia:

I got the whole show in much better quality than I had before (i.e. Leon Russell and Friends).

It had slipped out of my mind, but I was there the night The Band played their first concert as The Band (April 17, 1969).

Robbie Robertson was sick and there was a hypnotist on stage doing the hand jive to keep his temperature down.

Is this the show? I can't tell ya. It sounds like it. The second night was a much better show it was reported at the time. I didn't see it. I think there was a lottery to get tickets.

Not high fidelity, but I love the photo. A lot of Band stuff posted by this Youtube-mate, haven't had time to look through it all. Probably only two out six left standing. If you were somewhere else then you won't have to die.

EDIT: The Band at Winderland is the 4/19/1969 show - 8 songs got recorded.

wardtrotter, thanks for the Laura Mvula, she got a listen and will get some more.

bro hooblie,i love the sounds of rickie lee jones. she has the coltrane attitude and emulates him in her singing, using her imagination her vibrato, range and timbre. She's human Leslie speaker.

some of her work on my juke box:

Rickie Lee Jones ≈ St. James Infirmary

Rickie Lee Jones ≈ Weasel & The White Boys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSYWvz5QIzQ

Rickie Lee Jones ≈ Someone To Watch Over Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeCLnbl7SlE

Not a night train but working the graveyard shift:

Commodores ≈ NightShift

Commodores didn't do much sailin' and they didn't ride in one of these; but they arw Tuskeegee Airmen none the less.
