Sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do... and just the way most of my own most "memorable" adventures started. That will probably bring you two big smiles for many years. Glad you lived to enjoy. Now a ski tour and decent next to the falls...

Great story. Allowed me to vividly recall similar long nights in wet, heavy snow and why I hate snow camping in the dead of winter when it gets dark at 5:00. There's absolutely never anywhere to sit down!
