In the same vein as the Tuolumne thread.. . . .

It's that time of year.
Winter in the desert.
With spring to come.

Must be lots of history out there (prime those scanners!)

From my limited days in that beautiful place with more to follow.. ..

Duece - That palette fire ring shot is excellent!

And I know that tree in the road - Wouldn't the world be a better place if all city planners created streets that gave right of way to the native inhabitants?

These are all from Christmas through New Years '06. If you were there you'll remember the horrible wind storm that lasted for days. We probably managed a dozen or so routes and a few boulder problems but it was not nearly enjoyable as expected. I just remember climbing with dead numb hands and ropes blowing horizontally on rappels. I just dream about getting back there with nicer weather next time. What an amazing place to be in the winter.

More or less learned to climb there.

Scared myself silly multiple times, and learned a lot in the process.

Got to rub shoulders with some of my early heroes.

Walked through the desert (a lot).

Did some stupid things in my youth to people that deserved much better.

Got bitten by a rattler and did the death march back to the car before getting antivenom at the ER and watching my lower leg turn black.

Climbed some cool FA's there.

Worst crack gobis ever came from Josh rock.

Have come across random cave art where I least expected it.

Saw huge carp of all different colors in Barker Dam BITD.

Saw the NPS screw up the "Monument" of my youth by rerouting and closing roads. And then went back years later and realized it was still a magical place.

Climbed some of the hardest "easy" routes I've ever done.

Nowdays I return a few days a year and enjoy it every bit as much as I used to.

It's no wonder people come from around the world to enjoy it.

What the hell. Went on a "Santa Train" earlier today where I witnessed lots of snow, good folks, snow, a bit of cold offset by the warmth of the good folks on the train, gorgeous terrain, a bit of coffee and baileys, snow some more, and then I went to work.

Now I'm revisiting old posts here and how much I miss "home".

Having grown up climbing there, I got somewhat tired of the place and have just recently begun visiting again after a bit of a break.

I've made it a goal to go back and re-climb many of the old classics. This last trip out was a very fun day of moderates:

Touch and Go
Black Tide/Stichter Quits
EBGBs
Pope's Crack
Sail Away
Run for Your Life

I even got a nice bail biner from EBGBs.

I'm looking at the Monument (I guess it's a Park now)through new eyes and look forward to many more satisfying days to come...

We appreciate our 1/4" and 5/16th "time bombs" here in Joshua Tree..

(I took these out of a climb today...and replaced them with some 3/8" fatties....)....these bolts came out with a few hits, a few pulls, and a fart..
