'"Let's talk politics to please Guy!"

"Sounds fine," said Mrs. Bowles. "I voted last election, same as everyone, and laid it on the line for President Noble. I think he's one of the nicest-looking men ever became president."

"Oh, but the man they ran against him!"

"He wasn't much, was he? Kind of small and homely and he didn't shave too close or comb his hair very well."

"What possessed the 'Outs' to run him? You just don't go running a little short man like that against a tall man. Besides--he mumbled. Half the time I couldn't hear a word he said. And the words I did hear I didn't understand!"

"Fat, too, and didn't dress to hide it. No wonder the landslide was for Winston Noble. Even their names helped. Compare Winston Noble to Hubert Hoag for ten seconds and you can almost figure the results."

"Damn it! cried Montag. "What do you know about Hoag and Noble!"

"Why, they were right in the parlor wall, not six months ago. One was always picking his nose; it drove me wild."

"Well, Mr. Montag," said Mrs. Phelps, "do you want us to vote for a man like that?"'

I like the preachers wifes comment in Little Big Man when Dustin is being bathed "I will avert my eyes at the proper moment". I borrow that phrase every time I climb with a female. Another even more obscure one: When Roland fell off Rawl Drive while free soloing a party nearby heard him say "Looks like I am out of here" Thankfully he survived the fall and was able to walk away.

"I'm going to town now... or a minute from now... or an hour from now... it doesn't matter!"

JESS HARPER (character from LARAMIE), to SLIM SHERMAN,
in, "The Replacement"
[sure as heck, there was a disagreement on whether ol' jess should go to town--ain't that just like a western?]

"You might say I'm here for a lot of others that couldn't make it."

JESS HARPER to HALLACK, the reason jess went to town, same episode...
[seems town's a right-hard place to get to, for some folks, in these ol' westerns...]

"Yeah... guess I made enough mistakes for one day."

JESS HARPER to SLIM SHERMAN, same episode...
[hmmm, seems going to town, no matter HOW determined one is, ain't always the best thing to do in these ol' westerns...]

Everywhere we go these days, it seems like, all of a sudden, reporters and people will ask us questions -- ask us questions about things that they didn't use to ask. It seems like everyone's concerned about our national problems, about the war in Vietnam -- as we have long been. And they say things like, "How do you feel about the Vietnam situation, the war in Vietnam?"

I'll tell you exactly how I feel about it. This past January we took our entire show, along with my wife June, we went to Long Bien Air Force Base near Saigon. And--

(loud cheering from the crowd)

And a reporter friend of mine asked, said, "That makes you a hawk, doesn't it?" And I said, "No, that don't make me a hawk. No. No, that don't make me a hawk."

(more cheering, not as loud)

But I said, "If you watch the helicopters bring in the wounded boys, then you go into the wards and sing for 'em and try to do your best to cheer them up so that they can get back home, it might make you a dove with claws."

(wild cheering)

hey there..

“How’d I know that Jake… how’d I know to do that? Huh? How the blazing glory of the heaven’s sunrise, did I know that? How’d I know that I could bring you that far… through such a battle… and that you wouldn’t die in my arms. I never thought… I just knew to do all I did. Ain’t it funny?”

MATT MARTINIQUE TO JAKE SMITH, forty years after Jake's bull "accident", from the fiction novel,
JAKE'S RANCH AND THE SECOND GATE...
