When you sign up for SuperTopia, you have to fill in a box that says where you're from. Most of us are literal and prosaic, and simply down put the town or city we live. Betraying the origins of rockclimbing in mountaineering, perhaps - a geographically oriented activity if ever there was one. Some show a little more imagination.

SuperTopians rarely seem to change that part of their identity. However, one of us, the very lively Standing Strong, has more style. I believe that she lives somewhere in central California. However, a (very) low tech web crawler shows that her whereabouts change frequently, making up for us stick-in-the-muds. Since last autumn, she's been (at least):

cruzin' down the street in his six four (April 6th)
on top of the mountain seeing the other side (March 27th)
Boom bam as I step in the jam, God damn (March 19th)
super keen love song (March 14th)
the secret life of standing strong (March 3rd)
 offices & honkytonks (February 23rd)
penny in my pocket, suitcase in my hand (February 16th)
avoiding snakes in the grass (February 9th)
almost all the way home (January 30th)
 still decidering (January 25th)
everything I own in a box to the left (December 7th)
in a phonebooth @ the corner of walk & don't walk (November 27th)
 11_11*&*starz (November 7th)
a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago (October 25th)
1st star to the right & straight on 'til morning (October 21st)
 the trail (September 25th)
 ummm... can't decide (September 20th)
 the other side (September 18th)

Some of these locations are, shall we say, a bit puzzling. But they show energy and spirit, and a bit of poetry.

nita - omfg!!! you have no idea how honored i am you'd say that. i totally look up to you, i always wanted a big sister so i just tried to be a good one for my lil' sis. and no you're not old enough to be my momma, unless you had me in highschool! seriously you are truly wonderful and i adore you, we're a lot alike, we both don't much like being captured on film and we even have like exactly the same coloring we do look like sisters! we're hot!

L - you're quite stylin' your own hot self! i saw some of your
comments in the salmon thread about the natural world and that is awesome that you have such a connection with things that are true. way to keep it real! :)

I don't know - some people do well living a part of their lives as "runners". They know when things get weird, they'll run. I'm not sure it's as lamentable as it sounds - going here and there, experiencing things- I've known some "runners" who were really cool and together - they just followed their instincts.

Flightiness can be a yearning for experience, for wanting to go, to see and do things - a kind of intense curiosity that makes them unable to sit still for long.

It suits some people.

It's ok.

There have been some famous photojournalists who began their careers like this.

Nice Ray,
Which is also to say running from the self, if one's nature is to be a runner, would be a flight from the perennial adventure and represent an opportunity sorely missed.

That's weird. My computer name is runner and my login is Runout.

What did I do wrong?

Tarbuster edit: I'm gonna run now and do a runout.

Sometimes, it seems as though the best we can do with the cards we've been dealt is to accept and utilize (capitalize) on our nature to the fullest.

I'm trying to identify certain constants - having a sense of personal value or self worth, is probably one.

Good health habits in terms of moderation is probably another.

What else?

Aside from that, life is made to be experienced - shrug off the stigma of stereotypical expectations and be who you are. The sooner, the better.

To The Runner

Hold come a daydream
Ask a flower to kneel
When you pray
to the runner

Spurn all ye kindle
and cradle his sweet pleasure
As you just look
Farther and farther beyond him,
beyond him, beyond him

Call for the giver, the taker,
Rejoicing,
As you just look
Farther and farther beyond him
beyond him, beyond him

Spurn all ye kindle
And cradle his sweet pleasure

In it all
To the devil take
In it all
To the devil take
