A Quick History: The Woodson Eras . . .
(Help me here with any corrections or additions)

‘60s/ early ’70s: The PMBs and Royal Robbins bags the baggers Era

The ‘70s: The PMBs/Scumbags/Keith Brueckner Era (Woodson’s first contest early ‘70s) By the way, lots of funny stuff being smoked here . . .

The Early ‘80s: (Edit) Rick Piggot/Keith Brueckner/The Scumbags and Posse Era (See DW's post below). (I was gone ’80 to ’84)

The mid ‘80s: Rick Piggot/Lynders/ and Scumbag and Posse hanger-ons Era

Late ‘80s: More of the ‘80s Era/Big Contests/ and Knuth Brothers Era

The early and mid ‘90s: More Rick Piggot/Lynders/Knuth Brothers/last Big Contest Era (early '90s)

The late ‘90s/2000s: The indoor gym Era and Woodson’s Chirping Cricket Era --- or Where did everyone go Era?

2007: A return to our first love and the Woodson ST Reunion Era. The PMBs and StoneMasters realize they have so much in common as well as some overlap, yet no one can answer the simple question which historical social group phenomenon are the better climbers??? This might ultimately be decided with drinks in a social setting . . .

Edit:

The StoneMasters would make secret, unannouced visits to Woodson throughout all of these Eras . . . well, perhaps secret to everyone but Rick Piggot. Was there ever a time Rick Piggot wasn't within a Woodson Era? I don't think so. Maybe since late '90s until now is the only time?

Very end of the seventies and into the eighties you had the bunch of folks that include Raydog, Jeff & Adrian Almodovar, John McManus, Ron Amick, Eppi, and others whose names escape me. Watusi and BVB overlap and interconnect with those folks. While they never self identified with a snazzy moniker, they were a posse of note.

in the late 80's a had a Bosch and put in some TR's and replaced anchors - in the mid 80's I repeated Starving In Stereo, and put up Laverne and Aids Victim - Illusiondweller reminded me of another - Pit Bull 10+.

I had a list but lost it.

That was my peak at Woodson.

I'm so excited... cashed in last weeks beer cans and bought me a new pair of suede shoes with real rubber on the bottom.

I got dibs on ALL the plastic, glass n cans from the shindig

Jeff A (diablo)...it was you who's Levi's I borrowed to try Mother Superior at the '86 GWBC wasn't it?

I remember dropping my pants right there in front of the crowd that had gathered, taping my ankles then descending into the cave below. I asked the spotter to tell everyone to "keep it down" when a hush ensued. I ended up being the second one to succeed on it after Ron Kauk, who had done it earlier that morning. Great memory for me!

Dude! Ray!

Speaking of memories...Did you ever meet up with two blonde "long hairs", that looked like they were right out of the 70's, out of the Ramona area (I'm struggling with their names!)? Anyhow, I took up climbing with them on a somewhat regular basis there for a while (they bolted Uncertainty Principle to lead and lived off of Mussey Grade Rd). I went up to Tahquitz with the taller, skinnier guy (can't believe I can't remember his name!) to do The Edge. We tried Turbo Flange, without success and opted for the easier start up higher off the bolted belay station. I belayed and watched him basically walk up that Edge clipping all of the what, two bolts on that pitch? I was almost beside myself just watching him then getting my chance and seconding the pitch (which I did without barn dooring off of it, thank God!). We rapped off without doing the second pitch.

When we were coiling the ropes at the bottom I complimented him on his lead when he said, "I don't know if I would have been able to do that if I wasn't tweaking!" Imagine that!

1986 ..... was a good year. Wow Illusiondweller, totaly remember you stroking up M.S... the hush of the crowd, the vib and thrill of being at that at GWBC, one thing that is for sure , for the rest of your life you won't forget that.

That was huge.

yeah jeff, 1986 was my best year at woodson. starving, aids victim, lie detector, all of 'em. between '85 and '87 i was determined to do every f*#king woodson "5.11c" on the hill. i kept a journal, made move topos, started a guide, had a tick list i was determined to work through, and climbed there three-four days a week for years. i guess it's fair to say i was a bit obsessed. woodson was the center of my universe and the sole focus of my life. same for the 'natrix. we trained like banshees and spent every possible moment up there, with plenty of j-tree thrown in for good measure.

pretty much what mike and i had done during '76 - '79.

just got my new scanner working....here's a few chestnuts for ya'll...my move topo for vice principles office, plus the notes from that days' climbing...

here's a beauty from when i was working on starving. cilley refused to let me tape, so i scored some gobis that'd show up on satellite photos. good times.
