His way of going up the rock reminds me of Lynn Hill; economy of movement, balance, careful footwork; more like dancing up the rock as opposed to brute force.

The direct route on Fairview Dome was backed up so I looked for an alternative. Lucky Streaks at 10b looked pretty interesting. The crux was just a couple moves and then a 10a ramp. My partner that day, Sharon, readily agreed and we started up the climb. Up the 5.9 furrows I went and past the crux traverse into the ramp. The nuts I slotted on the ramp were practically worthless and the Elvis leg began to get out of control. As I got to the top I yelled where is the belay. A nice man yelled from below, "step around to your left. I commanded my foot to stick to the slab and breathed a sigh of relief as I anchored in and yelled off belay.

Later, as the following party caught up to us, the leader informed that he was climbing with Bob Kamps who had put up the route. He had also given me the beta on the anchor. I was amazed that here was a man with an elderly face and a 20 year old body. How did you ever find this route I asked. Bob responded, "We didn't think it would go and then we just got Lucky."

Bob died the following year climbing in the gym. I believe his last words were "Lower me".

Thanks Cole, brings back lots of good memories. I'd hate to count how many hours I have spent bouldering with that man and others like Kris at Stoney.

Since we are in the twilight years here...….I'd like to ask to the original poster , or perhaps anyone who knows Cole if he was the same videographer who was at the really cold Sushifest in Cochise. Frumy I think.....you were there? Advise ! and thanks Tim

They didn't come with Frumy, Jeff, Guy and me but I seem to remember Cole and Steph being there the second year. He's about 6'6" and she is about 5'3" so they are a hard couple to miss.

Never seen this Stoney Point documentary before. Incredible history, 80+ years of climbing history. Wow! Pretty amazing. The climbing there looks awesome. I've never climbed at Stoney Point. I'm missing it.

I wish Mt. Woodson had that long of a climbing history.
