What's the consensus about how exposed the East Butt route is to this active rockfall area?

Is it just the approach? Or is there obvious risk being on route?

That new corner is starting to clean up nicely, and I bet this heavy winter is helping.

Here’s a best guess as to the size and shape of the 3/16/19 rockfall source area, relative to the overall rock scar from the 9/28/17 and prior events. This is based on Greg’s before and after photos posted above, and drawn on his photo from right after the largest event on 9/28/17. I’m not sure of the exact margin of the lower right section of the new source area, hence the dashed line.

Interesting how the bottom margin of the source area is controlled by the sub-horizontal tonalite dike. The contact between the two different rock types (Taft Granite and pre-North America tonalite/granodiorite) forms a structural weakness. I’m surprised that the triangular section just below this dike didn’t go too.
