As good a thread as any for this, and one of the experts is present,
So does anyone know if this is an old climbing implement?
There’s a similar looking tool on eBay listed as a “vintage military piton hammer”
Likely just a surveyors

If it was for climbing there would be a hole at the end of the handle for a sling.
But then you never know with the military! :) :)

That hammer a couple of posts up looks very much like the ones that were used by geologists of the Geological Survey of Canada well into the 1980s. We never used those steel-handled Estwing rock hammers, and I much preferred the wood-handle one. I have one somewhere with a hole I drilled in the end for a leash.

Hey peeps, I'm beginning to wonder if the leeper jiggle-o is really a nut tool or actually just brass knuckles in disguise. $30 is a great deal for something that will protect you from baddies on the way to your car late at night. ;-D

Thanks johntp - I have already talked to the guy through Mountain Project. I don't think he is selling anything and he does have knowledge of what he has. Not sure why he is posting silliness?

so what do folks believe fair market trade for those blue handled alpine ice hammers? Not sure if they are for sale here or not but I have a line on a couple in my part of the world, wondering what they are worth to folks interested and knowledgeable in actually selling/trading/buying them.
edit: sent you an electronic mail Cpt Moser.

You can get a decent wood Yo hammer for $100 if you are patient and they are much easier on your hands for drilling and pounding. The plastic hammers don't absorb impact forces as well and are a bit harder to hold onto even with a layer of tape IMO. A MINT one is worth about $150 and $200 with the full pick set. A used one should be easy to find at $100 but they usually have only the Alpine ice pick.

I agree as to the Yose hammer. IMO $260 is highway robbery, even or especially on ebay and $185 is just a really bad buy. I checked on those blue plastic alpine picks/hammers Myles, but they are gone already (I think they were for sale at $40 apiece or less w partial pick sets/fasteners and moderate wear fwiw).

The OP followed through on our deal. Ice screws and wart hog received at what I consider a reasonable price. Seems he is having some sellers remorse and re-thinking what he wants to sell. He seems like a good guy to me.
