Los Dodgers get AJ Pollock... less room for Harper now and makes Joc Pederson a little more out the door in trade bait

Maybe the Mariners should sign Edgar Martinez again as long as theyíre going for Ichiro. Futility seems to be the theme of the Seattle organization. Anyway, Edgar deserved a place in the HOF. He played on the best teams the Mariners ever had, but nevertheless always came up a bit short (the team that is). As far as the DH in the HOF goes, I believe Paul Moitor spent a fair amount of his career as a DH and you know David Ortiz will be there in the not too distant future.

The Mariners just picked up that nutcase Hunter Strickland.... Good luck with that. His neck must be feeling better from all those whiplash hits he gives up late

See the young man in this picture? He was 18 years old when it was taken at the train station in Mobile, Alabama, in 1952. There is $1.50 in his pocket. In that bag by his foot are two changes of clothes. (And if his mama was anything like most other mamas in the South, probably some sandwiches and other snacks.) He was on his way to Indiana to take a job.

He was going to play baseball for the Indy Clowns of the Negro Leagues. Apparently, he was pretty good at it. A couple of years later, he was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers. He played for the Brewers for 2 seasons, then moved across town to the Braves, and later followed them to Atlanta. Eventually, he was the last Negro League player to be on a major league roster.

He still hangs around the baseball world. At the moment, he's the senior vice president of the Atlanta Braves. Even though the team has changed stadiums (twice) since then, his retired number, 44, still hangs on the outfield wall of the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium near where he belted a homer to break Babe Ruth's all-time record (which he held for 33 years).

Happy 85th birthday to "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron

From the 2 Degrees of Separation Dept:
Stanley Burrell, aka MC Hammer:
ďIn the Oakland Coliseum parking lot the young Burrell would sell stray baseballs and dance accompanied by a beatboxer. Oakland A's team owner Charles O. Finley saw the 11-year-old doing splits and hired him as a clubhouse assistant and batboy as a result of his energy and flair.[1][15] Burrell served as a "batboy" with the team from 1973 to 1980.Ē - Wiki

Charlie O was a good friend of me mum. Donít think she ever met MC Hammer though.

So the recipient of the 2019 Free Agent Winner's Curse turns out to be San Diego. This totally smacks of A-Rod to Texas. Too bad for the Padres and their fans, who deserve better.

Hey trivia buffs, Hank Aaron didnít start with the Brewers as they didnít exist until 1970. He was with the Braves when they were still in Boston I believe and he was the only player to play for them in all three cities that had the franchise. My favorite all time player, the guy was so consistent, year after year.

Okay Iíll correct myself. Aaron was in the Boston Braves farm system, but didnít make it to the bigs until they moved to Milwaukee.

edit: one can't find this thread easily by doing a ST search because the title is too short. Had to scroll back about 20 pages to find it. Let's keep it current.

If you type in Major League Baseball for the search it will come right up...

Padres.... bad move grabbing that chump Machado

Kershaw will NOT have a good season...

Puigs English is getting better all time, but when he wants to scorch the Dodgers he does it in his native tongue. Good for him... dodgers kinda treated him like sh#t.

Cubs poised to win it all...again
