yes, the finders of fact get fed their evidence, it's quite tidy that way

feralfae and Fritz exemplify out-of-the-jury-box thinking inspired by maverick nihilism that I admire. Not settling to be pawns in the trial process, they use their intellect and avoid depending only on the spoon-fed line of 'evidence'. They're the sorts I would want sitting in judgement over my case should I be fated to be prosecuted before the court.
The shortcomings of the law are well illustrated in the situation of illegal immigrants where law-abiding citizens turn a blind eye to the dire situations that bring these people to our borders and merely cry "It's against the law. Treat them like the criminals they are."

You're effectively asking for a Salem Witch Trial - a return to medieval times - where the rule of law nor a legal process is followed.
I've seen and participated enough to respect the process - which includes jurors not being allowed to be clever little investigators, evidence and hear-say rules as to what they can be presented, etc. I'm sure 100% Google the sh!t out of the case, these days, though. Why bother driving to check out someone's pad - Zillow and Google Street View.

Quite the opposite.

video worth watching.... do you really want to know what goes into the sausage? If you're going to be a juror I guess you should.....
About the pathetic "system" that runs the DA's office. (by the way, I hate this guy's humor.... )

Selecting me for a jury would be a karmic sentence for the accused and the jury.

Similar thing happened to me. I was on a 3 month road trip and the person collecting my mail just threw it in the pile. Turns out they had a warrant out for my arrest
Wait..... what?
With no interaction on your part, they issued an arrest warrant on a jury duty notice in regular mail? Or was this a warrant for some other different infraction/crime?
If the former, would have lawyered up and made some serious coin off of that one.

I have been summoned for jury duty at least a dozen times in my life and have never served, always been sent home for one reason or another. Only once was my group even escorted to a courtroom for the selection process and I wasn't even examined as to my qualification.
The very last time I was summoned, last year, I simply forgot about it and never heard a thing.
Trial by a jury of peers is one of the most important rights we have as citizens of the US and it should not be abused in any way, but it happens.
All lawyers are liars, BTW.
I forgive Fritz's faux pas, as it seems to me that justice was served and no innocent people were victimized.
As for the Quaker effort on behalf of runaway slaves, they should have gotten medals.

I had friends in the jury pool while prospective jurors were being interviewed (voir dire) in the trial of a fellow local charged with DWI.
When one prospective juror was asked if he knew the defendent, he replied:
"I know him very well, we're old drinking buddies!"
It was an instant mis-trial & as I recall, that fellow was charged with contempt of court.

I just got called to jury duty in Boulder County on Sept. 7, a very inconvenient time.
Living overseas for 35 years has shielded me up to now.
I'll report back on the experience when it's over.

In NYS you can postpone to a time period you specify. I've done this for almost every summons.

I've served on 7 or 8 juries over the years (three my first time back when CA made you serve all ten days no matter what, and I was working for a company that took civic duty seriously.) At this point, I figure I've done my bit and work pretty hard to get out of it.
Like Rich, I've seen a real range - both excellent and inept prosecutors and defense attorneys, jurors that took there duties seriously and others who were prejudiced in one direction or another, or just not able to understand the arguments. A few defendants who were pretty bad dudes, and a lot of people just caught up in the system. Police who were clearly lying or had planted evidence; others who had worked for a very long time to bring justice to a victim.
Luckily I haven't served on any traumatizing cases. The closest was a kidnapping case that ended with no deaths.
If you haven't been before, it is worth it to see the justice system in action. It is operating in our names, and it can be pretty eye-opening to see it up close.

Toss the notice in the garbage can and if that doesn't work just tell the lawyers that you are not prejudiced, you hate everybody. Dismissed!
