^^^Knowing Roger, even as briefly as I have, your advice to him seems based on an overly simplistic assumption of his understanding of business and the tax code.

And perhaps a misunderstanding of the thrust of his OP.

12,000 - 10400 = ?

Hint: Not 20,000

Multiply that number(?) by your tax rate to see just what your "net gain" is.

While contemplating passing the California Bar exam without attending law school, I worked in the office of a premier tax attorney (determined by his extremely wealthy and satisfied client list) for a number of years.

He's laughing in his grave at this discussion(RIP).

And perhaps a misunderstanding of the thrust of his OP.

Now that's entirely possible.

The thought crossed my mind at the outset that perhaps the OP was just the start of another whining, liberal politard thread about how bad, bad, bad those evil Repubs are.

But I wanted to be charitable and take it as an honest and legitimate complaint about the new tax code not working as well as for one individual as it will for the vast majority. And on that point, additional opinions from tax professionals can be helpful. I was simply pointing out that tax professionals can produce a pretty wide range of legal tax results. Opinions vary, and getting additional ones can be helpful, particularly if one's tax situation is at all complex.

That was honestly my intention and spirit in this discussion. I think that the old saw is generally correct: "A man who acts as his own attorney has a fool for a client." I presumed that Roger, being in finance, would himself recognize this point and seek additional review of his results. He doesn't seem to want to do so. His call. But, then, his results are not worth complaining about, and no politard point can reliably be made out of them.

Nuff said, Ed. Hey, it rhymes, and it's about as trite as your rebukes.
