i think, due to the fact that the coyotes were a LOT more sneaky...
and, at least they could HEAR WHERE the wolves were...

Yeah, but wolves will kill stuff just for fun. Everything I've seen coyotes kill... they at least eat.

Yotes absolutely LOVE to eat domestic cats here and will hunt them in packs of 4-8 or so.

A block from Chez Moi...

I wasn’t tempted to take it away from him. I also didn’t mourn the puddy given the millions of
wee birdies unrestrained cats kill each year.

It happens here fairly often. Locally a dog was killed in the front yard while the owner was getting ready to take it for a walk. This in a suburb but canyons are never too far.
When I lived next to a canyon here I would see them come up to the fence at night to size up our dog. New neighbors often lost their cats as they let them roam. You could hear the pack of coyotes call out every night

Crawled in a den and pulled this one out. Let my dogs play with it then stuck it back in the den. Pretty cute when not killing your critters.

I had to build a fairly elaborate fence to protect our
pets from coyotes. I guess it's what you gotta do as a
responsible dog/cat owner. Luv seeing the coyotes though.

When I was working in Chelan friends told me how a local coyote pack would send a lone bitch in heat out to attract loose male dogs; then the pack made an easy dinner.

Right on Reilly.

(why am I not surprised that Dingus is an irresponsible cat owner)

Winemaker, back years ago when I used to go to Joshua Tree, there were rumors the coyotes there used to do that too.
Here in SLC they are pretty common in the foothills and bordering suburbs. You'd better be careful with small pets.

On the other hand, my 100lb labrador chased one away on a hike a few years ago.

This is what I get for not having a DOG to bounce these f*#kers out of the yard.

That's my *yard box* they're piling over at the beginning. I keep a couple bottles of wine in there!

It looks like one has figured out that avocados are edible.

I shot the video from the comfort of the Kite Office, 100 yards away, at first light.

The only problem I have with the coyotes is they chew the irrigation lines in my avocados to get water. I wish they wouldn't do that.
