hey there, say, skip... wow!! i remembered how you shared about your
piano-- on that you had to sell... one similar to mine...

but-- never knew of all your orchestra level!!! wow...

say, and that is so true... the hours of practice...
when i used to play, and was more fluent, well:

i was not a mom... and has hours on hand, every day...
later in life, one has to 'grab hours on the run' or:

we are missing a huge part of life, outside of our
practice times...

friends, family and loved ones, and-- the great-out-doors
beg for attention, >:D<

say, you can be like that 'fiddler on roof' picture (on the movie box)
and after a climb, sit on the rock and play the clarinet:

and, entice new folks to the rocks, to learn to climb, ;)

Just revisited this thread. Thanks, neebee! You're too kind.
Here is another from my old man. He is playing a Huss and Dalton. Sitka spruce top, Koa body and neck. Sweet guitar.

Problem was- I never had any real natural talent and to kwith eep up the skills required 3-5 hours of practice every day.

Don't sell yourself short on talent because you had to spend some time practicing, and inventing, to be good. Any musician who is serious about classical music spends hours every day with their instrument, not including their performance commitments.

I was actually a keyboard player in all of the bands I was in. I'm kind of a banger on the guitar, but most lead players like playing with me. This is me at a local open mike a few years ago with a friend (for some reason she wanted to be in the shadow).

^^^^ GREAT song. My dad taught me that years ago.

Hey, T Hocking, I will bring a guitar if I can make it to the memorial.

Cheers!

Here is a new song I just wrote the other day. It mentions beer, trucks, trains and women. Only thing it's is prison and and my momma!

Rough version.

The main reason I gave up regular climbing? If messes up my fingers. I play in two bands, one is all blues, the other Dead, Hot Tuna, Haggard, Cooder, surf music. I practice mandolin and acoustic guitar for fiddle tunes, Bluegrass, fingerstyle, Jazz daily.
The last time I went climbing my fingers were sore and crippled for a week. I barely climbed 5.9 and the 10a sport Route was beyond me.

My son is a pretty good piano player, and did a year playing sax in marching band (after a year or two of clarinet), then switched to bass drum in marching band, and this year trying the quads. He also plays sax in a woodwind ensemble and a drum kit in a jazz band and did a bunch of performances last year. He learned some guitar from me but his fingers were a bit too sensitive for guitar strings. So he wanted to learn sitar... this was a few minutes after I suggested this song on the first day we played together (his first weekend with the sitar). Just a few minutes ago.

Not quite pro-level ;)
but not too shabby for first day or so!

I don't really play too much anymore, but I primarily play acoustic rhythm guitar, 6 and 12 string. Muck around a bit on the cajon and bodhran. Mostly 70s rock and some modern alternative.

Started off playing brass in school, trumpet and treble baritone. Enjoy playing drums, but we live in a condo so that is out until we get a house again :)

We usually have a pretty solid jam session during Facelift, "Timid Toprope and the Aiders" (Andy and assorted Taconians) keep folks entertained. We have a lot of talented musicians in our tribe.

How can you post a M3P here? Seems you can only post a photo or video.

I have a few songs I would like to share.

Make the mp3 into a video (with a static image background at least) and share on Youtube, then link in here.

Man I tried to play drums but never got past the snare.

So I tried the Sax and wanted to be able to this...

I couldn't get past more than the basics. But I gained a healthy understanding of what it takes. Kinda like climbing techniques sorta.
