Thanks neebee !

1/29/18 9:20 pm update from Leigh Ann

Layne had a very good day today. The neurologist saw her this morning and said that she does have some deficits with her peripheral vision, but it will improve as her eye muscles get stronger. Layne went through two rounds of physical therapy today and they said her legs are very strong.
Her left arm, hand, and fingers are stronger than the right side. However, the right side has improved since her last PT session. She was alert today, and in good spirits. The nurses said that she doesn't want her eyes covered during dressing changes. She wants to look at herself. She doesn't cry or get upset.
This kid is both physically and emotionally strong. We have been told that her infections are clear, and we are hoping it stays that way- so we ask for that to be a specific prayer request. Her next surgery will be Wednesday.
Please keep the prayers coming for this remarkable girl!

1/31/18 10:45 am LAYNE UPDATE via Leigh Ann
Layne had a terrific morning. She was alert and active when we arrived at the hospital. We got to hear her voice loud and clear. She tried something new during her physical therapy session. Her therapist put her on a tilt table to help relieve pressure on her back and help with digestion. She was almost fully standing. They had her move her arms up and down. Her therapist and nurse were dancing with her. Now, she's wiped out. She's heading for surgery at 11. Because of surgery, we repeat the ventilator process again; she'll be placed back on it for surgery and taken back off again when she gets stronger.

Layne had a restful night. She is more alert today. She had physical therapy on her hands this morning, and she will be placed on the tilt table later this afternoon -so that she will be upright. They will work on stretching her arms, legs, and shoulders. She hasn't been complaining of pain. She is slowly being weaned off of pain medication. Obviously, they are still providing her with enough so that she is comfortable and will continue to do so. Currently, they are changing out her central line again. She is still feeling a bit down, but she is asking to watch movies -so that's a good sign. I'm trying to arrange for her to begin receiving some counseling to help her with her emotions. Since I'm not able to be in the room (to provide her with up close touch support) I'm doing my best to provide outside help.
Thank you for your continued prayers for strength and healing.

3/6/18 Daily Update on Layne from Leigh Ann:

Layne has had a pretty full day without much pain. She finally had some speech therapy; she did very well. Hopefully, she will finally get to try the pudding that has been sitting in her room for two weeks. At this pace, I'm not sure when she'll ever have the opportunity to eat real food...seems like never....

She also got to get out of bed today. It was supposed to begin yesterday, but that didn't happen either. I felt like yesterday was a complete waste of a day. But today was a new day and Layne was able to sit up, stand, take a few small steps, and sit in the recliner. They worked on her range of motion. She wasn't as strong today since she's had no real therapy since last week. However, she was able to complete the exercises without complaint.

The team changed her diet, and hopefully her stomach issues will be resolved and she will receive all the nutrients she requires.

Currently, she does not have any surgeries scheduled for this week. The doctor will assess her wounds and determine whether further wound care is warranted in a surgical environment.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for our miracle girl.

hey there, say...

a much better update...

3/15/18 Today Update on Layne from Leigh Ann:

Layne has had a fantastic day! She enjoyed visiting Poppi, Lawrence, and big sister Lauryn. Layne kept her talking valve in for most of the day, and enjoyed catching up on things happening at home.

She had a wonderful tutoring session with her teacher. It's so nice for her to have something different to focus on. Her teacher set up an interactive growth mindset bulletin board in her room for other members of her team to use to leave positive messages of encouragement and accomplishments. We are so lucky to have so many people at the hospital working together to ensure that Layne has the support she needs during her recovery.

She made terrific gains in physical and occupational therapy. She was able to stand again and take a few steps. She is gaining strength everyday. She sat and interacted in the recliner for more than an hour. She and Lauryn got to play " ball" together. They rolled the ball back and forth to each other. My job was just to supply the Powerade...lol

She did very well with speech therapy. Her voice is getting stronger and less raspy. Her lip closure has greatly improved. We are still waiting for X-Ray swallow evaluation. It seems like we can not ever get our schedules aligned. It would be nice to move to different tastes and textures. Small things like that are so important!

Hurricane Amy, one of her favorite day nurses, helped us hang more decorations from the ceiling in Layne's room. She definitely has the best room in the ICU! She and I are formulating a design scheme for her room to celebrate her birthday. If anyone would like to send a postcard, picture, or a small note (index card size) of encouragement, we would like to display them in her room. Message us for an address. I'm sure she would love it! 😘 Her birthday is April 2.

She's been napping for the last couple of hours, and catching up on sleep. She has been sleeping much better at night, and getting into more of a sleep routine.

She is going back to surgery in the morning. Her doctor will focus mainly on her legs. He will check her wounds and ensure that infected areas are addressed. Next week, she'll be going through the Meek procedure again. Her own skin will be harvested and stretched out to provide extra skin coverage on needed areas. Hopefully, it will be a successful procedure and doctors will have a good base to use with her skin that is coming in from Boston within the next two weeks.
We are grateful that the medical staff here, at Kendall continue to push forward and provide her with the best care possible. Layne's fighting spirt and continued prayers from all, combined with medical expertise, are definitely driving Layne safely into home plate!

The hospital here responded to a tragic event today and we would like everyone to join us in saying prayers for those involved in the FIU pedestrian walkway collapse. Layne's ICU floor and this hospital worked on many of the injured. Please pray for those that died and those that were injured. Pray for their families, friends, and everyone who loves them. Please pray for the first responders, nurses, doctors and staff. Pray for the entire community as well -especially F.I.U.
Thank you prayer warriors!

Thank you all. Your help is greatly appreciated.

//4/1/18 Today's Update on Layne from Leigh Ann:
Layne was in pretty good spirits today. When we arrived this morning, she was wearing bunny ears made by nurse, Amy. We all took turns wearing our ears and taking pictures with her. She was very happy to see her big sister, Lauryn and the rest of the family. She even wore her talking valve for most of the day.

In the afternoon, she was given her own Easter basket, and we got to decorate eggs with her using cool whip and food coloring. She got to roll the eggs in the cool whip mixture herself. She also enjoyed eating some chocolate and little cutie oranges. A big thank you to, Amy for preparing all of the supplies. 💗

She still is experiencing severe pain from her previous surgery. However, she enjoyed the day the best she could. It was hard watching her experience so much discomfort. She was able to relax and watch Netflix a little even though she wasn't able to sleep much because of the pain.

She finally fell asleep around 8:30, and we left her listening to relaxing piano music. Nurse Jen and other members of the night crew will be busy decorating her room tonight with tons of birthday decorations. Amy and Jen gave us a sneak peek of the birthday gifts they bought for Layne. They truly put a lot of effort into buying meaningful, heartfelt presents. Layne is loved by so many, and we couldn't be happier.

I'm back at hotel now, and I'm organizing all of cards and gifts sent by all. Thank you all for helping making sure her 15th birthday is the best it can possibly be! 😘⚾️💗//
