Layne update via contact from Leigh Chesney (Mother): 01/06/18

"After the update yesterday, the eye doctor came and checked her eyes. Left eye is near perfect. The right eye was more swollen and irritated. However, he is providing medications to reduce swelling and prevent infections. He is optimistic she will have no vision issues.
The hand physical therapist also went in and checked her hands. She is confident she will regain all mobility."

In my dozen or so years here on Supertopo, I've asked for little more than route beta or directions. This thread is the exception.

Many of us look for ways to create value in our lives. This very need is the reason many of us climb.

We want to bring health, strength, skill and meaning into our individual existence. These are signs of a desire to do better and be better at life.
This desire proves we are alive, aware and willing to do what it takes to participate in your own growth. The willingness to explore the boundaries of your comfort zone expands those boundaries. This knowledge stays with you and enlightens your perspective.

Sometimes a random experience in life can have this same effect. The loss of a loved one, a near death experience, an opportunity to help someone in need. These are chances to learn more about oneself and refine ones ability to grow into a kind, strong, caring individual.

Layne Chesney is in need. She is fighting for what will be a challenging life, but she is fighting.

Give your time or financial support or whatever you can, but please give.
By doing this you are helping Layne as well as yourself.

1/10/18 8:55am update

Layne had a good night. Her blood pressure is down and so is her heart rate. No medication was needed to manage her blood pressure. Her white blood cell count is still elevated, but it hasn't increased. She's fighting an infection in her bloodstream. She is receiving numerous antibiotics. Doctors are changing her central line today. Tomorrow she will have another surgery. They will put in a trachea tube and a feeding tube. Organs are still fully functioning, and she is tolerating the nutrition she is being given.

1/12/18 10 am update via Leigh Chesney (Mother)

Layne is in surgery. I talked to her trauma Doctor. He said her WBC was high again today. He said that the surgery today should help clean some of what is causing the issue away and help improve her count. They made some adjustments with the antibiotics. They also had to increase her ventilator settings. He said its most likely due to fluid build up.

I'm sorry for this child. I feel a lot of sympathy for the grief of all friends and family. What a terrible ordeal. We often have a candle lighting on Friday night and I brought this sad story to the circle.

That said maybe the tribe here needs to look to help its own kin, too.

there are some of us that are in dire need, yes from having grabbed at lifes passion, but saving little being the best Yo-Yo never paid. so now in destitution, sick, they are in great need. (not just, by a long shot, and most are not asking , due to stoic pride)

Update via Leigh Chesney 01/15/18

" Layne's surgeon just came out and actually sat down to say that he has no explanation for how well Layne is healing. There were several other doctors who came into the OR to witness her progress. The doctors have no explanation as to how this is happening. Her doctor said he never thought he would see this from her. He has no medical explanation for her healing in this manner.
God Bless everyone who continues to pray and keeps this family in your thoughts! "

Update via Leigh Ann Wirz Chesney Layne had a restful night. Doctors have decided to lower her sedation and allow her to wake up. They will still supply her with paralytic medication and pain medication. I'm excited but also very nervous. Continue praying for her recovery.

Update from Leigh Ann Wirz Chesney
Layne is almost fully awake. She is keeping her eyes open for long periods of time. She is non- verbally answering our questions by nodding and moving her head.

1/24/18 morning update via Leigh Ann Wirz Chesney

Layne had a fairly good night. She experienced some nausea. A group of doctors came by this morning, and they were in disbelief of how well she is doing. The respiratory therapist was so pleased at how well she is doing, he decided to remove her respirator. She's breathing completely on her own. We are waiting to see how she responds. Hopefully, she will be able to talk soon. Keep praying- it is working!
