Happy birthday Ed!

You've been of inestimable help with some tricky questions:

Ropes at the Speed of Sound: http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/335919/Ropes-Speed-of-Sound-physics-question

Golf & El Capitan: http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/206908/climbing-myths-golf-and-El-Capitan

Today's puzzle is how deep can a crevasse be? (OK, maybe it's more something for Greg Stock...) But, not counting calving ice shelves and bergs, how deep can a crevasse actually go down?

Happy B-Day, Ed, and stop trimming your beard! It doesn't look scraggly enough to qualify as belonging to a rock climber!
