Rockies got a minimum IQ for players? Not evident on those retards that tried stretching base hits against Puig and Kemp. Puig nailed the moron going into third from deep right field!

As I said at the start of the season the Dodgers’ pen belongs in the pen.

Are they going to start putting dresses on the batters? They tossed Urena? Did they toss Drysdale when he broke Mike Shannon's arm? Not even Shannon got mad, he knew he was cheating.

Keith Hernandez has it right.

Commenting on the Acuna situation during the TV broadcast of the Mets’ game against the Baltimore Orioles, Hernandez said: “They’re killing you, they’ve lost three games, he’s hit three home runs — you gotta hit him. I’m sorry. People are not going to like that.

“You gotta hit him, knock him down — seriously knock him down if you don’t hit him. And you never throw at anybody’s head or neck. You hit him in the back, you hit him in the fanny."

“That’s just part of the baseball code,” Hernandez said. “If someone’s hitting home runs, they’re leaning all over that plate. I’m sorry, I’m not gonna let you do that. Here’s one in your ribs or on your back, and let’s see if you stay in there next time.”

Bob Gibson says he never hit a batter, batters hit themselves.

Hank Aaron, on Bob Gibson: “You don’t dig in against Bob Gibson, he’ll knock you down. He’d knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don’t stare at him, don’t smile at him, don’t talk to him. He doesn’t like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don’t run too slow, don’t run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don’t charge the mound, because he’s a Gold Glove boxer.”

^^^^. NICE! When men were men.

Editorial in LA Times today about that idiot Puig getting tossed just because the Giants’ catcher baited him with some trash talk. WTF? That’s what catchers get paid to do you moron!

Puig was never the sharpest tool in the shed.

Seaver and Gibson were really going at it one day. Seaver was at bat when Gibson gave him a high hard one. The umpire started to head out to the mound, Seaver told him to stay out of it, "This is between us."

Gibson is the original hardman. Give him the ball and get out of his way.

The Puig episode reminds me of when A-Rod got in it with Varitek after getting plunked. It was just jawing until V said, "We don't throw at .230 batters", and then of course it was on.

Interesting to see Joe Maddon, whom I respect greatly, being new-agey about l'affair Acuna. I'm going with Keith on this one.

One day last week the Cubs turned 7 DP’s! Same day another team turned a TP but it was the first time in like 100 years that the batter wasn’t one of the outs!

Could we talk up the A's some more-from 11 games out to being tied with the 'stros for first be fore losing the last game of the series. Better record than any team in the NL., could still not make the play offs?

Great LLWS game going on now... Texas Vs. Georgia. LL mistakes lead to tying runs... All tied up in the 9th right now. Kids are taking really good cuts! #Polished!

Edit: The A's????? pfffffffft

Game over edit: wow.. what a back and forth... LL error leads to winning run on 3rd with one out. Sac fly to right sends Texas home.

Looking a lot more likely that the Mariners don't make the playoffs than the A's!

The Good Guys in green and gold are the best story in baseball this year. They've been playing out of their heads since mid-June. A long, grinding lineup with lots of power, excellent bullpen, and surprisingly consistent starting pitching. And let's not forget the absolutely startling third base defense provided by Matt Chapman that has to be seen to be believed. They've been a very exciting team to follow this season. (I listen to almost every game.)

The regular season bet I made with Donini before the season—A's record v. Angels record—is an absolute lock at this point.

And you should have heard the cocky hogwash Donini was spouting in March...

A's get a wildcard
knock the Yankees off
fall to the Sox in 5 (the Coliseum is a tough place to win)

I get to watch the two games in Oakland!

If the A's get into the postseason, which at this point is more likely than not, they will be the weakest by far of the 5 AL teams to make the playoffs -- at least as measured by run differential. As of this moment these are the top 5 teams in the AL (by winning percentage) and thus are in-line to make the playoffs. Run differential is displayed by team.

1. Boston +215
2. Houston +197
3. New York +148
4. Cleveland +139
5. Oakland +76

So that's a relatively wimpy team in the East Bay.

on the other hand

A's 2018 record wins
against Mariners: 5 of 12 (7 more to play)
against Red Sox: 4 of 6
against Astros: 6 of 15 (3 more to play)
against Yankees: 1 of 3 (3 more to play)
against Indians: 2 of 3

very respectable.

Long balls are dead balls in the Coliseum... heavy, cold marine layer, night games are horrific for home runs, not to mention the wacky pitching.

The A's have hit 170 home runs.

Only the Indians, Dodgers, and Yankees have hit more.

(Tied with the Angels, one ahead of the Red Sox.)

Two of the aforementioned teams play in absolute bandboxes.

But about that marine layer—the A's have hit 66 home dingers, 104 away.

Their 104 away home runs leads the majors.

As for run differential, what is it relative to the others since June 15, when the A's started their breakout? Because for the Good Guys, it has been a tale of two seasons—that which came before, and that which has happened since.

A's 2018 record wins

against Astros: 6 of 15 (3 more to play)
against Yankees: 1 of 3 (3 more to play)

very respectable.

by my math that looks a lot like a winning record that is mediocre at best: 46% (18 out of 39)

not bashing the A's, as I certainly would like to see them beat either -- better, both -- of the Red Sox and Yankees. But their 2018 success is almost certainly ephemeral. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Nats offload Matt Adams to the Cards and Daniel Murphy to the Cubs.

The yearly collapse of the Nats is in full swing....
