They’ll be lucky to make it back to their hotel.

Last night Pujol's got HR number 620 and double number 625, passing Aaron on the all time doubles list. We have tickets for tonight, and he only needs two for 3000. And with Baltimore pitching...

Class act, too. So is Pujols. I’ll throw Trout into that pond, too. BwaHaHa! Sorry.

Throw Trout in a pond. When it comes to trout he’s a steelhead...a rainbow who goes to the sea and comes bag bigger and badder then ever. That dude rocks!

Ichiro has not, and likely will not retire until next season. The Mariners open their season against the Oakland A's.....in Tokyo.
I believe he will suit up in front of the home crowd for a farewell.

Check Stubhub for the prices on that soiree.

I agree with sween, Ichiro will have his swan song in Tokyo at the start of the 2019 season. Then I'm making my reservations for a hotel in Cooperstown for July 2025.

Spent the last two nights in Anaheim hoping to see Pujols' 3000. Came close last night. If he hadn't got hit he would have had it.

One thing for sure, Baltimore truly sucks. They can't hit, pitch or field. They must have one of the worst outfields in major league history. Machado must be dying to get out of there.

If you are in Potrero Chico right now you can take in the Dodgers/Padres in Monterrey... Sounds like a fun night out. I wonder if beers down there are $28 like at our Big League parks?

Cards-Cubs are on right now, ending the weekend slate of games

Cards are down Yadi Molina, who took a groin shot in the series

Cards-Cubs is the best rivalry in baseball, maybe sports. Don't want to hear Sox-Yankees or Dodgers-Giants -- that's second-tier coastal stuff

Molina had to have the coconuts drained... out for maybe 6 weeks. That there is a world class shot to the nuts, not the usual "two minute flu" from getting rung up... I could feel it all the way out here in JT

What pro catchers don't use cups anymore?

None... for sure he had a cup on. A good ringing can still happen even with a cup. He might have got the dreaded "bat wing pinch" where all your junk ain't in the trunk.

Must be pretty gruesome to have surgery and DL for a month +.... damn

I base my loyalties on the excitement a team provides, not on where they play. So far this year my excitement rankings are:
1) Angels
2) Yankees
3) Boston
What is this affiliation thing with where a team plays all about? The owners only want to get you in the stands and blind allegiance plays into their hands at not having to spend money to provide a good product.
The players don’t care about the city they play in, they do care about their contracts and whether or not the team they play on is competitive.
I will always follow the excitement a team provides and that is dependent on the players on their roster.
If Mike Trout ever leaves the Angels, I probably will to.
Blind allegiance to a team let’s money hungry owners off the hook.
Call me a fair weather fan...I prefer to think of myself as an open market fan.

for sure. Also, I've long suspected that a majority of players would prefer, if given the choice, to play in empty stadiums with no fans. An utterly clinical environment without being subjected to the indignity of playing in front of the bourgeoisie. I probably would prefer that too if I were a player.

I think the players, like all performers, appreciate fan adulation. I am way more pro player then pro owner.

Mostly bullsh#t... ever hear of hometown discount? Grown men cry when they get traded away from "their" team... lots of guys in the Bigs dream of playing for the home team since they were little kids, and when they eventually do, there is a strong bond there.

The competitive angle is the only thing you got almost right.

Nope... the majority of players feed off the fans and the way the game is going, actually play to the fans with bat flips and antics to rile them up. Ever watch any Latin ball? With 30% of MLB being Latin these days, the fans are no doubt a large component to their style of game.

I still get chills thinking of walking onto the playing field of a large stadium full of home fans.

IIRC, Curt Flood challenged the reserve clause not because he wanted more money, but because he didn't want to leave St. Louis.
