I think if you aren't willing to even comment, the like button is stupid. That's why I stopped clicking "Like" anywhere they have those buttons. It's meaningless. If you have something say, then say it.

micronut/Jaybro- thought about this a bit more. Guess it would not hurt and may serve a purpose. Guess my inner crudgmean came out of it's hole. I use it very rarely on other forums. It seems to me to be a silent positive vote. That's why I "like" eKat's TFPU thingy; bumps the thread.

kind of sad that we have so many negative responses and even votes for a take a hike button..... Someone goes to all the troubble to post climbing photos and trip reports and you guys are so busy looking for something to argue about that you don't have time or inclination to like the damn photo.....

That's why I appreciate eKat's TFPU thought. Too many times on ST and other forums that TRs are viewed but not acknowledged, dropping them off the front page. I always post on TRs that are good, even if it is only to say TFPU.

Maybe this is all we need. Feel free to cut and paste this and use it at any point in the forum.

What a boring crowd. Supertopo is headed towards becoming a Myspace for the elderly it seems.
And don't worry about my self esteem. I'm a really big deal on Insta.
I derive my self esteem from my hot wife, my beautiful kids who excel at everything, my big house, and my rad truck with 35's.
Nothing the aging, angy crowd at Supertopo can ever give me by liking a few photos of me pumping out on moderate trade routes.

Oh My God!!!

I was laughing so hard, I fell off my chair.
Anyone who's read any of your TRs (and I've read 'em all...several times), had to know you were practicing your famous irony.
And if they didn't, then they need to read more of your TRs.

"Like" button sounds fine to me.

Good points Dingus. I always assumed that this thing was a labor of love for him anyway. It never hurts to offer some thoughtful advice on improvements though does it? I am a super topo groupie anyway and in it for the long-haul. I just can't wait till they make the movie.

I personally am deeply ashamed by my confusion.

But now I get it - you're proposing a like button that's secretly a "you're a jerk" button.

I like it :-)

Chris Mac is an entrepreneur who has, like many entrepreneurs, muddled through and found a path that makes them successful. For him it seems to have been Outdoor Gear Lab. It is tremendously hard to build a successful business and I commend him on that because it seems to be doing well.

I could be wrong but I sense he has lost the passion for ST, even though in my opinion it still has potential for selling new and updated guidebooks, online advertising, etc. My advice, since I doubt ST has enough current revenue/earnings to be worth much, would be for him to give ST to someone with the energy and passion to do what needs to be done, and take future royalties/earnout as payment. Just my two cents...

It only takes a moment or two to post an appreciative comment when someone goes to the trouble of posting a TR and you feel the stoke. It would be a shame if a "like" button lessened those personal paybacks. If it is just intended for forum posts I suppose I might use it once in awhile.

WTF?! Someone hacked my account! That guy is clearly a Russian troll! Even a genius like Zuckerberg could figure that one out!

This information -> belief thing is easy. Other people must just be doing it wrong. Like Trumpie, we just use the BEST biglyist heuristics.
