If I recall correctly, I took this photo during a fly over of Laramide structures in the Big Horn Basin Wyoming (or was it the Powder River Basin?)

The high temperature record for the earth, was set at 132.1 F a few miles away at the furnace creek weather station July 10, 1913. the El Aziz record was disallowed in 2012 as the earlier "record" reading was taken over pavement... also in 1913, Henry Ford started the previously unknown, moving assembly line.. we do not have a higher record, since Ford started mass producing cars.. another inconvenient fact.
Badwater has consistently higher temperatures than Furnace Creek, with a lower elevation and a more enclosed, less exposed to air circulation site. It would produce a false comparative to build a weather station there now, but if you look to "new" high temperature records on other continents, those weather stations were built in the last 30 years. oh except Antarctica, where the record was set in the 1960s, as the station was not built until about ten years before, but no higher temperature since.
On this day Furnace Creek recorded a temperature of 129 F it was 135 at Badwater when the photo was taken.
