Walt Wheelock was an incredible person to talk to. I worked at Kelty in Glendale in the late 60s and was the climbing equipment buyer (no one else climbed) and the book buyer (no one else wanted to buy books.) Walt would stop by often to talk with Dick Kelty and always had a couple of new books.

I once said I wanted to climb Picacho del Diablo so he gave me a couple of pages of directions. I finally climbed it so he would stop asking if I had.

Jim Herrington - I think Walt Whitman would be a good description and I hope you did photograph him.

James- What was Dick Kelty about as a boss, friend and innovator?
He and Colin Fletcher did as much to popularize backpacking as anyone else that I can think of offhand.

Tom Condon did the second ascent of the Totem Pole along with Dave Rearick and TM Herbert. No small feat!
