I should have got WB to balance one of those burnt up dolls that were in da' bus....damn....

Better toss this into the WB mix for the sake of historical record...

Werner,

One of my heros from the way back machine!

I'll always be grateful for when you hooked me up with the beta for the 3rd ascent of Tribal Rite.

You thought I wouldn't like it because of all the copperheading. But you fed me info anyway.

I loved the route and I've always enjoyed seeing you.
I hope I get to see you again soon.

Bump for one of my heroes.

Werner, you the man!
I have such fond memories of watching and listening to you back in the day. We first met in 77.

I'll never forget.

-A memory.
I'm twenty years young and I am bleeding my way up Mark Chapmans lead of "Five and Dime" at Reeds. As I near the top my cupped hands begin to slid up and down the wider section of the crack, the feet begin to paddle, and power begins to fail.

I look upward and see two things, more of this dreaded size, and Werner Braun! He stands above me unroped on the grainy, sloping, treacherous cliffs edge completely at ease with himself and his world around him. His long blonde hair blows wildly in the summer wind, hands are placed comfortably on his hips, his eye's fixed on me and my obvious slippery situation.
I push down the queasy feeling in my belly, dig yet a little deeper and hear through my grunting panting self Werner's strong confident voice say:

"don't think about the pain, don't think about the pain"

As I slough off the cliff and onto the rope I glance at the eight holes marking the spot where my knuckles had once been reflecting.

1. Darn, I just failed to second Five and Dime.
2. I won't be climbing for a few days due to self inflicted injury. (tapeless days)
3. I'm really scared dangling on the end of this old rope, on this steep cliff side, with Werner smiling over the side in the summer breeze as though rope is not a necessity!

To this day I often hear Werner's encouraging voice in my mind saying:
"don't think about the pain, don't think about the pain"
This voice has not only pulled me through many challenging moments while rock climbing but also through the many hurdles of my life time.

Thanks Werner, you are the best!
