I've been brewing with brett and various bacteria for years. Also live in a place (Seattle) where these kinds of beers are readily available -- to the point that there's almost always a "sour fest" or "funky beer week" going on somewhere. Often with twenty or more taps devoted to sour and funky.

I'm on the run, but will check back in later, and will be happy to talk funk if you want to.

Had the Black Tuesday from Bruery recently.

Delicious!

The White Chocolate is up next for me from them.

Mooch, you would enjoy both.

The f'd up thing is having a friend brewing. You end up finding rather quickly what you like and don't like.

Remember the good old days when Coors Light was sufficient to make it through a Joshua Tree weekend or a Colorado River visit?

Just a heads up......if you have been diagnosed with gout, beer is one of the worst alcoholic beverages you can drink. Found that out this weekend as I know someone with that painful disease. Switch to wine or Grey Goose. :)

Also seafood along with red meat are not something you want to eat. Hey, even 30 year old males can contract gout. Women are less apt to have it.

Now back to your regular channel. I still like both lite and dark Modela.

Lynee- there are several versions of gout, all have different characteristics and symptoms.

Many variables come into play and beer can be a factor in some of them. Your uric acid level (and SED rate) determines treatments for gout and people have all kinds of uric levels.

I have been diagnosed with a form of gout for years,,,primarilly in the elbows, it's a bit hideous.

Beer doesn't change my uric levels at all (unless I went crazy) some foods do however..badly

I have been dealing with Gout for thirty years or so and a lot of new info has come out in that time but still no "cure". There are some myths that still circulate.

I do ok with Lagers and less hoppy ales. Darker malts seem to be worse also. Red wine or booze that has been aged in wood seems to be harder on me also. When I am having a serious attack I don't drink at all but drinking is not the cause of gout or the attacks.

Slabbo, I started with the classic "big toe" attacks but hardly ever have any attacks there anymore, it has gone on to my ankles, knees and elbows and yes it is worse than the big toe. Good sleep is impossible. A drugged-out delirium is the best I can hope for.

End of the day, end of my monthly publication cycle, and I'm in my favorite bottle shop/taproom enjoying a small glass of something truly massive and contemplating one of the five stout fridges. It's a cold night, and I want something warming to take home.

Most of them I know. But the one on the left on that shelf is new to me. "Prestige de Charmes"

And then I saw the price tag. It's hidden by a reflection in the picture, but it was...

Better sit down...
