I've been saddened to see most of the pictures, as the vast majority of the "cathedrals" don't go free. Thus, they are inferior, merely faint shadows of what "church" should be about, and their "gods" reside in weakness.

Churches are to convert sinners into the saved, Jim.

Pantheism, Buddhism, Animism, Islamism, Judaism, Christianity et al, are birds of a feather.....human constructs with no real underpinnings. Mountains are real and splendid to the eye, truly deserving of our attention.

truly deserving of our attention

But they don't go free, so they can't ever be superior.

Bouldering. Free-soloing. Free-climbing. Those are the only things deserving of our attention, as only those are superior and expressions of the pinnacle of the sport. Slogging up mountains isn't even climbing. That's hiking, perhaps roped hiking.

Yawn.

I found a few more mountains worthy of worship in my archieves.

I've worshipped more than a few in my lifetime.

I'm thinking that the real reason Donini goes to these fantastical places is to challenge himself with seeing how close he can come to capturing the moment in a snap.

Screw all that climbing stuff, the real prize is coming back and sharing these most out-of-mind, outrageous photos. I bet they even impress Jim himself, "Dang, I really did make it there!"
