Howdy again Supertopo-ians!

It's that time of year again!

This year will be the Eighth Annual Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange. The previous seven years have been a wonderful success. It is my personal goal to get even more of our community involved so please spread the word.

Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2016 Rules

1. You must be a registered forum user of Supertopo.com BEFORE 11/8/2016. Sorry to you lurkers who want to participate, but this is to insure that we don't get any opportunists who want free stuff without reciprocation.

2. Having said that, if you do agree to participate you also acknowledge the fact that you may receive NOTHING back if your Secret Santa is a d#@&%ebag. We will, of course, mercilessly torment them on the forum but otherwise there is nothing to be done.

3. And, having said that, DON'T BE A JERK! Do not sign up if you are not FULLY COMMITTED to FULL PARTICIPATION.

4. The gift you give should cost around $20. Homemade gifts are encouraged, there is no price put on care, creativity and thoughtfulness. Also factor in for shipping, so your overall cost will be around $30 depending on what you bought and how expensive it is to ship.

5. Gifts MUST NOT BE NSFW!!! (NSFW= not safe for work) No porn, rubber appendages, lingerie, etc. These gifts may be opened in the presence of children so please keep that in mind. EVERYONE should plan on sending and receiving something clean and fun!

6. Once you receive your gift please post pics! Not only does it let your Secret Santa know the gift was received, but it lets the rest of us see just how cool your present is!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

1. YOU MUST EMAIL ME BY Wednesday 11/30/2016 if you wish to participate!

2. The correct email address to use is: supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com.

3. Do not send your notice of participation through SuperTopo!

4. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ADD THE ABOVE EMAIL TO YOUR SPAM FILTER. Every year we have problems with my emails getting filtered through spam. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, when you email me to join ADD THE EMAIL TO YOUR SAFE SENDERS LIST!

5. In your e-mail you must give me your supertopo name, real name, shipping address and any other special considerations like gender/allergies/crazy phobias/etc.

6. Secret Santa Name Distribution emails will go out on 12/2/2016. In this email will be the name and address of who you need to send your gift to. Also, at the same time, someone else is getting your name and address so they can send you a gift!

7. You will now have TWO WEEKS to purchase or finish creating your gifts and get in the mail ON OR BEFORE 12/16/2016. This gives 9 days for shipping (hopefully enough to ensure timely delivery during the Holiday Rush.)

8. If you live OUTSIDE THE USA… We love to have international participation! But please bear in mind that postage can sometimes offer a bit of sticker shock and that extra time is required for your package to arrive. Please bear this in mind when you make the decision to participate.

9. You do NOT have to respond to this post to participate. Participation is 100% anonymous unless you choose to divulge your identity to your recipient yourself. Maybe you are Royal, or Bridwell, or Chris Mac, or etc., and wish to remain anonymous. Fine. However you MUST send an email to me supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com.

10. At the close of each year’s event ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES, NAMES, AND OTHER IDENTIFIERS ARE DESTROYED. No one uses your information and it is not sold or otherwise distributed. For this reason there is the statistical probability that you may have the same Secret Santa or recipient as you did in a previous year. This is part of the adventure. If however, you do receive a name you are not comfortable with please let me know. I cannot work miracles but will do all in my power to remedy the situation.

Let’s make this year’s SuperTopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange the biggest and best one ever!

Simon,

Thanks for taking on this responsibility again this year.
I am sure this means a lot to quite a few of us.
To open this present on Christmas Day is one of the highlights of my holiday.

Just to reiterate what Simon said in his original e mail, if you can't fully commit, don't sign up.
I have always received my gift, but a few times it has come after Christmas Day. I got a couple of e mails stating sorry, I'm traveling, can't afford shipping cost right now, waiting for next pay check, etc, etc.
I appreciate the gift, but it's kinda lame not having it arrive on time.

I will be continuing my yearly tradition of purchasing a gift for our organizer. Please contact me off site for that info.

Zip, at this point we could use Santa in a cabinet position in the White House.

So, I personally am having trouble reading the lack of sign ups this year. My only guess, people are to stressed out about the state of:

1) The World

2) The US

3) Standing Rock and more

It is at times like this when we need to create, work hard at, bringing joy, love and peace to those around us and the world in general. Jess sayin'....love from lynnie

It has nothing to do with the state of the world or any other cause du jour.....

Santa, along with the forum, is dead. If you got 9 people signed up, you managed to get every current forum member.

HaHa. That's the best you can do?

1) Not all of us are living large. Has nothing to do with Lynne's list.

2) The gift exchange has become, for all practical purposes a chick flik. I have been on board since it started. We used to exchange climbing stuff. The last time I had a male giftee was Kovar, maybe 4 years ago? Never had a male gifter.

It has run it's course.

While we may not be pushing the limits of giftyness this year I can assure you that there are far more than five sign-ups.

Come on! It's Christmas!

Let's have some fun. and forget all the other nonsense that is riddling the world.

I know that the gifts I send and receive and the ones I see posted each year are always exciting and worth the tiny effort involved.

Hello all!

All the names are in and we are at 25 participants this year (Presuming I get SofCookay info!) Only slightly off from 2015.

I have compiled all the names/addresses/etc into a spreadsheet and assignments will be sent out MONDAY December 5!

You will then have about TWO WEEKS to purchase or finish creating your gifts and get in the mail ON OR BEFORE 12/16/2016. This gives 9 days for shipping (hopefully enough to ensure timely delivery during the Holiday Rush.)

Have fun!

Not sure what the issue might have been.

I am excited! A large, flat package arrived today. Is it stocks or bonds? Is it squashed cookies? is it a cardboard house that I must cut out and put together? Is it the Declaration of Independence, or an illustrated "Night Before Christmas? Is is something from the mountains?

I will exercise my patience and leave it with the rest of the wrapped parcels until at least Christmas Eve. To my Secret Santa in Cali, here is your first thank you. I'm sure I'll be sending more after I open it. I am really delighted to have this, as I sit here at my desk looking at two other Taco Secret Santa gifts, hanging above my desk. Could it be ART???

We will all know in just 12 or so days. This is exciting.

Thank you Secret Santa!

Obviously not Zip, Lynne, :) but I started thinking about the proper drink for an internet social event, and I'd think, given the time of the year, the possibility of smoke in the room (s) and the general appreciation of proper drinks at the proper time, how about a nice Sherry? Probably not so great for heavy drinking though. Champagne is always in order, as far as I am concerned. :)

I am checking the delivery of the package I sent tomorrow.

I wanted to check on my gift, and after a search through this month's stack of shipping receipts, which I carefully annotated, I found it, upside down and backwards. Typical climber story.

The gift has been delivered. To the front door or porch. Maybe we will hear from the recipient that it has arrived.

Lynne, I always have a bottle of champagne and at least two flutes chilled and ready, just in case. :) And there is sherry, but that is more of an evening drink, around the fireplace or fire. I've taken brandy and splits of champagne to high places, but never vodka. Totally medicinal, I am sure. :)

Now I know that the package was delivered, I do hope the recipient likes the set of Somethings I sent.

Merry, Merry and Happy Happy everyone!

this is so very special... all kinds of little trinkets of all the
things i always looked for and did, when i was little, and, when
i was near the sea shore...

oh my, the good lord just knew... :)

i am so very sweetly surprise, here... oh my,
thank you :)

and-- I STILL HAVE four more of them to open...
i will have to put photo, tomorrow...

awwwwww, remember, i loved all my gifts, each one...

this one, just touched the little girl in me, and
brought lots of sweet memories, of things that god has
done with me, all these years, in the past...

of course, all my other gifts were for things that god
does for me, NOW, at this point in life...

so--they MINGLE all of them, so very well together...

*say, johntp... remember the paints, :)

well, i will have to PAINT a picture of all these things,
sometime for my mom... she will love this...

i STILL USE and look at, ALL my secret santa gifts,

hey there, say, johntp...

there is right time for things, and occasionally, they are not
quite the time we WISH we could pick, :)

i remember at least three times in my life, where:

i too, felt i had let someone down, by
missing a mail date, for a gift...

each due to different reasons, but, none being a secret santa...
however, when the gifts DID get there, i was more than shocked
to see, that they timing WAS FAR better, than i ever could have
done, myself... by just 'being good and responsible'...

the best that you did, YOU DID do... :)
you let FOLKS know here, and, you came forth again,
to give a good-heads-up, that the gift is on the way...

please, please, NEVER GIVE UP, being part of this nice way
to be an extra little hug, to folks, whether it makes it there
for the christmas holiday, or:

being a really NEAT KICK-OFF TO THE NEW YEAR, for any
straggle-sends, :)

happy good eve, friend johntp! :)

Dang JTP, wishing you a good New Year's continued rebound!

I never got my lump of coal either, RC. Guess I had better stay off the political threads this year, ha!

To SofCookay-

FYI. I acknowledged receipt of your package on 12/21/16 on this thread. Thanks so much for the print of half dome; it is wonderful.

Unfortunately I have been going thru some health issues (balance and fainting) and have not been as responsive as I normally am.

My apologies for not being more prompt with my thanks.

John, very sorry to hear of your health issues and I hope you get to feeling better soon! I am sorry I missed your previous post that you received your gift - I scrolled through and looked at the photos to see what others received and I didn't see anything from you so I thought perhaps it didn't make it to you. Wishing you better and healthier days ahead.

johntp, you have been such a wonderful part of this entire forum and a major contributor to all the fundraising events. I believe you even drove way out of your way to pick up Natures fresh fish etc. for Sushi at the Gordon Ranch.
Prayers and hugs to you, hope you feel better very soon. Happy New Year, lynnie.
