Edge, so nice to see a pic of my old friend, the late Rosholt. I love seeing images of him that I haven't seen before. Any idea which route the pic is from? It looks familiar but it's been awhile since these aging neurons experienced Eldo.

ydpl8s, my aging neurons told me it was the route "Peanuts", which I was able to confirm by comparing features to pics on Mtn Project. John and I teamed up for a bunch of routes that summer, from Fat City and J Crack in Lumpy, to Tongo in Boulder Canyon, to a bunch of mostly obscure classics in Eldo. I'm sure I have a ton more pictures, unfortunately they are all 35mm slides and undigitized.

Basically whatever John wanted to lead I was up to follow, and he pushed me onto the sharp end with copious amounts of green rewards. I still remember fondly swinging leads with him up Rosy Crucifiction, waiting out the afternoon thunderstorms with a joint or three, and finishing on Italian Arête once the rock dried. Good times.

I first visited Eldo in 1979 and I still cherish driving into the canyon all these years later. My first route there was Ruper with my biggest piece being a #11 hex. Boy that was an exciting lead for me back in the day.
Pure magic in that canyon.

Edge, looking forward to more pics, putting them out there slowly is good for me, makes each one special.

More shots from Eldo, 1981 with John Rosholt. Apologies for the crappy scans from slides.

Not sure what any of these routes are...

I've always wondered why it's called The Bastile. It doesn't look like a prison to me.

Edge, thanks for those pics of Rosholt! It sure was a formative place for all of us Front Range Boomers.

Did someone mention the Bastille? This route always delivers, although a little on the warm side on an August afternoon, when this was taken.

I learned to climb at the gunks. When I first moved to CO, I was immediately climbing a half grade harder in Eldo. But it may just be that the gunks ratings are off. Everything is slippery in Eldo, that's the nature of the climbing.
