Pretty cool of you to ask, Paola.

I would either go with something like Werner or Warbler suggested. Or even what Wade said, which in my mind would be what John would want anyway. No chipping, no nothing. Clean.

I respect the idea of a fixed memorial ~ maybe to reach the Ethereal & Ephemeral,

( both a 'permanent minder' ! and a non permanent 'Alter', to leave a tribute on, that is swept clean each season, )

just a big flat stone. Or stones laid out flat, A place to leave A stone & a feather,

or A crystal to be Also, over time, scattered,

Swallowed up spread to the winds.

Where one might envision the many things he meant to so many.
( him standing, blowin' Sax ~ in silhouette, )

Watch the start, I a saw a mischievous spark, ( it made me think. To post ) Then skip the middle, or @ about 3:20 start grooving , they do

Of all the things I've to tell, this memory is one of the deepest held in most respect.

There is a whole story but, I was on a trip, I was supposed to be well wrapped in yuppie comfert,

but the Red Ford Explorer, got impounded at the California border.

I was not a paying member but a paid for ' under the employ of' so I was welcome to hang around,

I quit, chose to hitch. I was able to make it to Bishop, and through the kindness of strangers to the trail head.

As the sun set I saw fires down the hill, and then off from some rocks,

the sound of the Sax. . . . Lost, alone, out of luck, lying in unfamiliar dirt... There are no words. . .

The memory of the sound of the Sax and that I knew who was blowin' it, Still brings tears now

To soon to Soon! Hug your loved ones
Peace .

I would suggest a plaque attached to the wall.

No more plaques.
No more vandalism of the rock.

Nice Wolf, very well done.

p.s. No trace left behind is always a good practice, but a small obscure engraving probably wouldn't hurt.

Peace,
Ken

Spent the last week with the Miwok/Piute people. As we stood below the B/Y they were respectful in that a song and smudging/blessing was done in his honor. It was very, very moving and helped greatly with my healing process. John respected them and they in turn accepted and respected him. The sage bundle used in the ceremony. John's spirit continues to influence us.

Maybe something annual to celebrate JB's life. An award to recognize someone who embodies John's ideals?

Ron - was meeting the Miwok and Piutes part of the annual traditional walk they do? I gave a hitchhiker a ride from TM to the 395 late last month, he was doing the walk with them, through Mono Pass.
