At long last Vic Zeilman's fabulous new guide book to the Black is in stores.
It has tons of topos of, not for long, obscure routes and great color photos of EVERY wall currently sporting climbs. The commentary from Vic about specific climbs is excellent. This book has a tremendous amount of information not currently available in other guides or on the internet.
I have no doubt that Black Canyon aficionados are going to feast on the myriad of new climbs that are no longer shrouded in mystery.
If you want to come and experience some of the best multi pitch trad in the US....this book is a must.

I've never been to The Black, but looks fantastico.
Love the cover of the book, if that's anything. And that pic of the canyon from above, deep!

Put in an order along with the preorder of the upcoming Needles guide. Might have been a mistake to put them in the same order. Haven't heard a word form them in a week about this one shipping... maybe I'll get it in September.

Mine should be here soon, in plenty of time to select some adventures for fall. Hopefully he uses the standard Black Canyon rating system; Worth Repeating (WR), Worth Doing Once (WDO) and Not Worth Doing (NWD) ;-)

Thank you for the plug Jim - very kind.
I'm excited for folks to explore some of the new stuff in the Canyon. I didn't use any star rating system in the book, but hopefully by each specific route description it will be clear if a climb is WR, WDO or NWD (there's a lot of WDO routes in the Black, for sure).
Thanks for all the support!

Vic...your detailed descriptions contain all anyone needs to make intelligent decisions on whether or not to venture onto a climb.
Jay Smith and I are getting to the Black around 5:00 pm tomorrow for a two day visit...will you be there?

I ordered mine from Kevin Daniels publishing 3.5 weeks ago along with the new Needles guide. My Paypal was charged immediately but I haven't received the book nor any notice from the publisher. I wrote them a couple of days ago and their quite brief response was "the books will ship together when the needles book comes in". Hmmm. I would really like to receive the Black guide now since it is available and not wait 7-8 weeks total for both to ship together... Seems like odd customer service to me :-(

I got this exact same thing, except I sent an email query asking "WTF?" (no response at all) and that might have ejected me from the somewhat blunt response pool. Since I'm not planning to swarm right off for the Black in the near term, I would have been okay with a short note saying they were going to ship together. Got crickets. CC statement already came... already paid... not cool.

BrassNuts, Steelmnkey, Radical -
Send me a PM with your mailing address. I will talk with Kevin directly and see if something can be done before the end of August (when the Needles book is scheduled to ship), and if nothing else, I'll send you a book myself.
All the best,
Vic

I wonder how you people function in the real world, off the SuperTopo forum. with difficulty, I imagine.

Hey Vic, thanks for the comment and your offer, but no need to go out of your way for me anyway. It just seems pretty simple; Customers order and pay for in stock product >>>> vendor ships product to customer :-) Regardless, I really look forward to receiving and using the new guide :-)

Dave, when you get the book you'll be blown away at the wealth of climbs previously undocumented or poorly documented. I'm sure it's going to lead to some unfamiliar climbs listed on the sign out board.
