Robert, Tom Michael and I came out to the ranch and visited a bit with you and Tucker a few years back (lots of beer in hand). You were a great host and we ended up climbing with Tucker a bit that day.

I am really sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis. I love your positive attitude in dealing with it though, and hope that I would would have the same. Positive thoughts heading your direction tonight.

Damn Robert.

I would have thought cancer would have been scared as hell of that liver.

Stay strong. Brother.

Deb and I will be out soon.

rlf--

We have never met and likely never will.
It makes me really sad though, to know that you're so ill.

Prayers, vibes, dollars, visits and little notes all add up, if not to cure, then at least to give solace.

My best wishes and a bucketful of prayers for now.

Godspeed,
MFM

A comprehensive discussion of immunotherapy techniques provided by the Cancer Research
Center:

http://www.cancerresearch.org/cancer-immunotherapy/impacting-all-cancers/liver-cancer

Some immunotherapy approaches cannot be used in the presence of Hep C BUT a drug now
exists that cures Hep C. Give me a moment and I will look up the name or call a friend in JT
whose Hep C was cured.

Edit:
HARVONI treatment is one pill, once a day. It’s that simple

There was the usual absurd cost but my friend got help from, I believe, a gov't program. Look
around in the Veterans Admin.

But get a second opinion.

PS: The tamarisk is gone. Took it to the landfill today. While working on it a bicyclist who knew
about the Pit stopped. When I told him it was closed he said, "You're kidding! Why on earth?"

I am not a MD. Nor do I smoke.

Below I see Genotype 1 of HEP C is called out. Needs to be mentioned. Anyway the drug made in India is far far cheaper.

Not valid for patients enrolled in government healthcare prescription drug programs, such as Medicare Part D and Medicaid. Patients in the coverage gap known as the "donut hole" also are not eligible

Key points:
• Hepatitis C affects 3.2 million Americans and kills more people each year than HIV/AIDS in the United States.1
• Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in December 2013 and by the European Commission
in January 2014, Gilead’s Sovaldi® (sofosbuvir) 400 mg tablets in combination with other antiviral agents for the
treatment of chronic hepatitis C (genotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4) offers a potential cure with a short-term course of therapy,
an important consideration.
• Gilead’s latest innovation, the once-daily single tablet regimen Harvoni® (ledipasvir 90 mg/sofosbuvir 400 mg), has
further advanced treatment for patients with genotype 1 hepatitis C infection by providing high cure rates with as
little as eight or 12 weeks of therapy, without the need for interferon injections or ribavirin.
• The price of Gilead’s hepatitis C treatments reflects the significant clinical, economic and public health value of these
drugs, and is comparable to, or in many cases less than, the cost of older, less effective regimens.
• In the United States and around the world, Gilead is working to increase access to its medicines for all people who
can benefit from them, regardless of where they live or their ability to pay.

Harvoni is the newly discovered wonder drug for Hepatitis C. Marketed by pharmaceutical giant Gilead Sciences, it has more than 95% cure rate. A major problem is the cost of Harvoni – with $94,500 price tag for standard 12-week treatment, Harvoni is one of the most expensive medicines in the world. However, many patients seek out a generic version of Harvoni from India which only costs around $900 – a fraction of a cost of the original.
Harvoni offers high cure rate and moderate side effects. Learn how to recognize Harvoni side effects and how to fight them.

Eligible patients may pay no more than $5 per co-pay for HARVONI
We believe that cost should not be a barrier to receiving treatment. That’s why the makers of HARVONI offer a co-pay coupon. If you are eligible, you may pay no more than $5 per co-pay. Need a replacement coupon?
Please note the following:
You are not eligible if you are enrolled in a government healthcare prescription drug program such as Medicare Part D or Medicaid. This includes when you are in the Medicare Part D coverage gap known as the "donut hole."
The HARVONI Co-pay Coupon Program will cover the out-of-pocket costs of your HARVONI prescriptions up to a maximum of 25% of the catalog price of a 12-week regimen of HARVONI. See Terms and Conditions below.

Nita, thank you for suggesting that I post here.

Here are some links to the autoimmune paleo diet, which may help. When Doug was diagnosed and given only a short while to live, we used a lot of these ideas, and it helped him to live on and stay strong for several more years than the doctors had given him to keep going. And I have used it for six months and have gone from lots of fuzzy mis-diagnosis to being declared "totally healthy" and "we don't know what happened, especially since you refused the medicines and chemo and treatments" statements.

This may not cure you, but it might help with getting stronger, helping the immune system, and let you enjoy life more and longer.

This is my favorite site, run by some super people and with great information:
http://autoimmune-paleo.com

This one is a thirty-day plan, complete with menus, shopping lists, and lots of motivational help. It is a great way to ease into the program, and while it is full paleo, there are special sections for autoimmune help:
https://paleorestart.com

Also, one thing I found to help balance and maintain my immune system was peony extract, which was recommended by two naturopaths. This helps to modulate the immune system and control autoimmune disorders:
http://www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2014/3/safely-manage-autoimmune-diseases/page-01

Doug was part of several clinical trials in the USA and Canada and Europe. We received incredibly good information and a lot of help from Life Extension Foundation's Bill Faloon and the doctors.

One of the toughest parts of attending to cancer is getting rid of the stress, and we used a lot of meditation, especially healing meditations by Belleruth Naperstek and Jason Stephenson, both of whom have some of their meditations on You Tube for free.

I hope that helps.
Lynne, thank you and sowr for mentioning the GoFundMe. Off to drop a couple of coins there now. Lynne, you are right: show it!

All Best wishes ,

Oh, Moose, I think that yes, each of us must find our individual optimal foods and eating plan. I can have gluten-free beer, but don't much like the taste, so I think I will stay with my small glass of savage cabernet a few times each week.

I did forget one thing, though: dandelion root has exceptional medicinal qualities. Here's a recent article that came across my desk(top) today:

http://etliberty.com/dandelion-root-health-miracle/ As with anything or anyone, the user's mileage may vary. We are all so wonderfully and beautifully unique.

I hope you keep feeling better, and maybe you could try giving up all alcohol for a month. The AIP Paleo diet is a foundational plan, to which one can slowly add things back into the digestive system, making sure there are no adverse conditions as a result of the additional substance. And yes, gut flora is so very important, too. I make my own mild ginger kimchee.

Robert, we are all pulling for you. Remember to laugh a lot. :)

feralfae

Meanwhile, I will try to remember to sip an occasional small glass of mead or sherry as alternatives to the cabernet.

After watching both my parents fight cancer with chemo and lose I've decided that if or when I get cancer, if they can't cut it out of me,
NO CHEMO FOR ME!

I'm glad I got chemo or I'd have been dead ten years ago.

Good luck to you RLF.
