Thanks everyone. My wife and I have been looking around for the past year and decided on Redmond/Terrebone, OR.

I quit my job of 27 yrs and our house has been up for sale for 3 weeks. Hope to move very soon!!

Redmond/Terrebone is half Californicators so it ain't really moving to Oregon.
John Day is the real Oregon.

Good luck! I'm curious how you made your decision. Any close runners up?

On the edge-

2nd choice was Redmond! LOL

Why we chose not to go to Bend:

House prices too high.
Too much traffic.
Too crowded in general.

Redmond is less crowded and is a better value for home buying.

We looked at quite a few small towns and Redmond is a place that my wife can see as home. If it was solely up to me I'd be in Cortez, CO due to proximity to desert and mountains.

But Redmond has enough for me to keep busy......and hopefully I can find work once we get up there.

Enjoy your new home.....Cortez would have been a good choice too.

There are pluses and minuses no matter where you go, but on the plus side for Redmond is that this is practically in your back yard.

Congrats on the exodus from the So Cal hell!

You won't regret being out of that traffic.

Roots! And the next-best thing about your new home-town, is you are only a few hours west of Idaho! Woohoo!

Skardu, Pakistan. A stones throw from the Karakoram and a haircut replete with a twenty minute head massage is two bucks. Oh, but you better like turkey bacon.

Phunny that Mojave has been Ground Zero for aviation's cutting edge for 30 years, isn't it?

Ghost, yer gonna retire to Bella Coola? I've looked at property there, too!

The new resort will have a great view of Mt. Robson.

The "new resort" will be a real estate speculation boondoggle just like Jumbo was. Sh#t we're still paying the salaries for mayor and council of a nonexistant town! Hard to beat that kind of scam but he's doing it again.

^ The difference in this case is there's actually a real town there already, and it has the support of the local community. :-)

From what I understand, Oberti did not initially come up with this idea, but was approached by locals for development. Not exactly easy to get there though.

Buttonwillow CA.

Quick access to the 5 for the inane number of road trips climbers tend to take. Cheap housing means more gas in the tank and one of the closest destinations would be the Needles.

Where there are not one, but two "Syphilis, The Silent Killer" billboards, the wind blows a constant 20 gusting to 50mph, the local pasttime is smoking meth down by the train tracks, and the old mining pollution and view of a hill full of windmills is free. Get there before the crowds, don't be priced out!

I was there one time when the wind gusts were 80mph.
I actually think the town is dieing. The 58 bypasses it, and there are fewer restaurants than there used to be.

Edit: In the nineties I worked with a woman who bought property in California City. She swore that it would be the next boom town. We know how that worked out.
