Howdy again Supertopo-ians!

It's that time of year again. But for those of you who have participated in the past SuperTopo Secret Santa exchanges you may be a tad confused by me, IHatePlastic, posting this annual announcement. After six years of helming the Secret Santa Gift Exchange our tireless leader, Strider, has decided to pass the baton. Earlier this year Strider contacted me and asked if I was willing to take on the role of Secret Santa and make sure the tradition continued in all its glory. Who was I to say no to such a fine event?

Before diving into the nuts and bolts (man, that works so well on this site!) of this year’s exchange, let me be the first to shout out a HUGE THANK YOU to Strider! What an incredible effort he has mounted over the past years. And let’s follow that with an equally HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the man and his new bride!

Now, on to the details…

This year will be the seventh annual Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange. The previous six years have been a wonderful success. It is my personal goal to get even more of our community involved so please spread the word.

Supertopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2015 Rules

1. You must be a registered forum user of Supertopo.com BEFORE 11/9/2015. Sorry to you lurkers who want to participate, but this is to insure that we don't get any opportunists who want free stuff without reciprocation.

2. Having said that, if you do agree to participate you also acknowledge the fact that you may receive NOTHING back if your Secret Santa is ad#@&%ebag. We will of course mercilessly torment them on the forum but otherwise there is nothing to be done.

3. And having said that, DON'T BE A JERK! Do not sign up if you are not FULLY COMMITTED to FULL PARTICIPATION.

4. The gift you give should cost around $20. Homemade gifts are encouraged, there is no price put on care, creativity and thoughtfulness. Also factor in for shipping, so your overall cost will be around $30 depending on what you bought and how expensive it is to ship.

5. Gifts MUST NOT BE NSFW!!! (NSFW= not safe for work) No porn, rubber appendages, lingerie, etc. These gifts may be opened in the presence of children so please keep that in mind. EVERYONE should plan on sending and receiving something clean and fun!

6. Once you receive your gift please post pics! Not only does it let your Secret Santa know the gift was received, but it lets the rest of us see just how cool your present is!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE THIS IS HOW IT WORKS:

1. YOU MUST EMAIL ME BY 11/30/201 if you wish to participate!

2. The correct email address to use is: supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com.

3. Do not send your notice of participation through SuperTopo!

4. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ADD THE ABOVE EMAIL TO YOUR SPAM FILTER. Every year we have problems with my emails getting filtered through spam. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, when you email me to join ADD THE EMAIL TO YOUR SAFE SENDERS LIST!

5. In your e-mail you must give me your supertopo name, real name, shipping address and any other special considerations like gender/allergies/crazy phobias/etc.

6. Secret Santa Name Distribution emails will go out on 12/2/2015. In this email will be the name and address of who you need to send your gift to. Also, at the same time, someone else is getting your name and address so they can send you a gift!

7. You will now have TWO WEEKS to purchase or finish creating your gifts and get in the mail ON OR BEFORE 12/15/2015. This gives 10 days for shipping (hopefully enough to ensure timely delivery during the Holiday Rush.)

8. If you live OUTSIDE THE USA… We love to have international participation! But please bear in mind that postage can sometimes offer a bit of sticker shock and that extra time is required for your package to arrive. Please bear this in mind when you make the decision to participate.

9. You do NOT have to respond to this post to participate. Participation is 100% anonymous unless you choose to divulge your identity to your recipient yourself. Maybe you are Royal, or Jim Bridwell, or Chris Mac or etc., and wish to remain anonymous. Fine. However you MUST send an email to me supertoposanta (at) gmail (dot) com.

10. At the close of each year’s event ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES, NAMES, AND OTHER IDENTIFIERS ARE DESTROYED. No one uses your information and it is not sold or otherwise distributed. For this reason there is the statistical probability that you may have the same Secret Santa or recipient as you did in a previous year. This is part of the adventure. If however, you do receive a name you are not comfortable with please let me know. I cannot work miracles but will do all in my power to remedy the situation.

Let’s make this year’s SuperTopo Secret Santa Gift Exchange the biggest and best one ever!

WooHoo! While I am very sad to not be hosting the event any more (life just has gotten too complicated) I am VERY excited to see IHatePlastic (Simon) take over the program. I know that his attention to detail and love for the forum and its users will make the program better than I could have ever made it!

So a huge thanks to Simon for taking over and I know this year will be the best one yet! Sending my sign up right now!

Now you will have one of your international participants, Simon. Nada problemas, we know the drill, we across the seas. :-) Late gifts, expensive shipping, weird addresses etc, but great fun.
Btw, those Christmas t-shirt gifts I once got from you are well used and the one I thought too small somehow grew and fits perfectly. I love it.

I am not sure I will be able to join in this year due to travel conditions. I won't be stopped in one place like I have been in the past. But....maybe I can ask a friend to receive my package for me, open it and take pictures, and hold for me til I get back in spring. Will see....

Nonetheless - I am happy to see the Supertopo Secret Santa Season is on! Thanks to Stryder for all those years, and to IHatePlastic for becoming the new Santa organizer.

Love seeing the handmade, home crafted, repurposed items as well as purchased gifts. A lovely way to bring people together. Each year, this forum hosts uncommon and unique stories of far flung gifters on the road for work, for adventure, those in transition and homebodies who find their own way to participate. Like those I met at Facelift, this exchange is a connection to others like me...and unlike me in so many unimportant ways.

JohnTP - sometimes the post office system doesn't work right but it doesn't mean the package is not in transit correctly.

Meanwhile - do you have the receipt from the transaction? If so, and you have some time, you can go to the post office and they may be able to "go deeper" the online system. I had that with an EBay sale a few years ago - customer railing at me where the hell is the package, and the auto system saying "Heck if I know" but at the post office, they were able to say exactly where it was. It got put on a wrong truck at some point and then they had to reroute it, which took more effort than one would expect, but...it DID get to it's destination.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! Super, Super, Super Secret Santa!!!
A white box came,
nestled there among
the many that greeted me
at the Post Office window.
They dumped them all in a big cart
and rolled it out to the car.
Big heavy brown boxes. Oh, wait . . .
One flat white box,
arriving with this snow.
A smaller box, a tidier box,
too light for rocks.
I put it where we pile presents.
I'd get back to the stack later.
I though it was a great night
for a long, slow unwinding
from a long, winding day.

Then neebee called, and
We talked of the mystery box
That wasn’t rocks,
or a very big box,
but tidy.

She asked,
“Where it was mailed?”
“Snailed from Sacremento,”
I replied.
I had to see
What was inside.
Curiosity, see?
Oh. My. Gosh.

From the Ansel Adams studios,
Clearing Winter Storm

I now have one of my favorite Ansel Adams images, as favorite as El Capitan, Winter, Sunrise, Yosemite National Park, 1968

Secret Santa, I send ten thousand thank yous,
now that I am not so breathless
at the beauty of our playground,
at the beauty of our nest.
As seen through the eyes of one
who saw and walked in beauty.
Thank you for your beautiful and generous gift.

Thank you. It will be hung above my desk, near my photograph by our own ST prezwoods, taken in Arrigetch Peaks of the Brooks Range. Now when I look up, I will see even more beauty. ☺

Thank you. Merry Christmas.

Whacha doin here???

K I have a luxury lifestyle. I live in two places. City and country house. Work four days at a hospital, then shuttle to the country house or stay at the city house for the three day weekend. I was in the city place this weekend. The fiance left Ojai very early Friday am for the Tejon Ranch Christmas Bird Count. So just heard about the newly arrived packages Tuesday evening....it's a fun life but I do need to maintain two sets of everyday items and we both always have a cooler in the car.

As I dug through the box more things kept appearing. And if you've ever received anything from Neebs you know how she wraps things. There's no just "tearing into it". Santa finally arrived, having successfully navigated the US post office, Canada customs, and then Canada Post. And he brought an abundance of riches, from Santa Cruz of all places! (Santa Claus/Santa Cruz. That can't be a coincidence.)

Card of the Awahnee in snow, intelligent socks, and Santa Cruz Warriors tree decoration. I'm not sure what a Santa Cruz warrior is, though.

Santa also plans to cruise by Santa Cruz, but sadly he didn't leave here until December 17th.

Thanks, Simon!

MH...although a Santa Cruzan I can't take credit for being your ST Secret Santa.
However, the Santa Cruz Warriors are the development team for the Golden State Warriors based in Oakland. The Warriors won the NBA championship last year and so far this year have only lost one game. They are HOT. The Santa Cruz Warriors are also VERY GOOD!

Happy New Year to you and Loki.

Susan

Edit. (I'm on a slow connection or I'd send you a link).

Fresh out of the hills and back to connectivity, I'm looking for my dang camera so I can share what my Secret Santa delivered down the chimney.

Hold on there bro, I'll find that camera as soon as, well, as soon as I unpack I suppose.

Hey there Alex, I am still waiting for them to track it down, they said yesterday that it hadn't likely left the Mammoth PO, so I am holding out hope!

Well, I got this awesome photo and hand made frame a week or so ago. The artist/ craftsman is one Mr Erik Wolfe, I am assuming he was also the Santa. I appoligise for the poor quality photo, mine in this post. I have issues with taking care of cell phones.

Whatever the case we love it!

Cheers.

Woohoo! After some serious sleuthing at the Post Office, they came out of the back with a package from OjaiAlex today!
Fun care package with a lot of stuff representing Ojai, which looks like a cool place that I hope to visit someday.
Thanks ST Secret Santa!

It would appear some have not seen the 2016 festivities...
