I recall decades ago the Eurail pass did not include Zermatt.

Although I have trained around Switzerland a bit, the distance trips were mostly arranged by my employer, or we just bought a ticket and rode.
However!
The best-looking conducter I've ever seen, was on a Swiss train.

Like Tuolumne tradster posted, they are very punctual. On a hot day in a stuffy traincar, I tried to buy water at a stop and as I'm running back to the train it takes off with our gear and our friends. luckily my wife got off the train in time. We freaked out at first, but just got on the next train and all was good.

I only traveled on the relatively flat areas (Geneva to Zurich), paid for by my client, on first class, which was wonderful in all respects, including the meals in the dining car. My daughter and her friends went to Grindelwald via train about ten years ago, and thought they were boarding the second class car. They were, however in first class. When the conductor came around, they had to pay the difference in fares. The conductor's words, according to my daughter, were "One is the same in every language, ja?"
