Let's seriously talk about ethics. There has been complaints from the Forest Service about the loud partying after hs and campfires (that are not permited at this time) in the Boulder Basin campground Black Mountain area. World class Bouldering destination with amazing mind blowing campsites. Unfortunately due to the behaviour of certain groups of climbers/boulderers, the area might be at risk of being closed out.
People, I'm PISSED. I just opened an account in order to rant about it. We need to stress the ETHICS of climbing, because OBVIOUSLY, there are certain people out there, who need to be EDUCATED.
1. Carry in, carry out. Your trash does NOT stay in the frigging wilderness!!!!!
2. Respect other climbers and other campers . Do NOT Boulder over other people's frigging TENTS!!! Goddammit!!!!
3. NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED MEANS NO GODAMM CAMPFIRES!!! We don't have the resources to go rescue you after we already told you.
4.Respect the wildlife. In general respect the area you are visiting. No selfies with snakes please. But if you happened to get bit by a Southern Pacific Rattle Snake and you die, I will be very happy. Darwin award to YOU!
5.Travel and camp on durable surfaces and do not build furniture or landscape the wilderness. Btw, bitches, we can see you...
6.No, don't take stuff back home, that includes that rattlesnake and found racks.
7. Plan ahead and prepare. I definitely need a separate chapter for this one. Honestly, if you don't know how to poop in the woods, just do me a favor and STAY AT THE GYM!!!!

Alien..... I too feel your pain. Most Taco users are pretty old, veteran climbers who have a ton of outside experience. You might get more bang for your buck if you posted this rant (all spot on) on Mt. Project in the Southern California section.....
jess saying.

What he said.
The climbing community has had an incredibly good relationship with the ranger charged with recreational issues. He's been a complete supporter of efforts at Tahquitz and Suicide and is also completely up to speed on what's going on at Black Mountain.
Abuse will lead to restrictions.
That's not his call.
Don't blame him when it happens.
That's just the way it is and should be.

Well....I'll paint with a broad brush and (horrors!) profile a bit. Boulderers, as a group, don't have quite the developed environmental ethic of most climbers.
They're also a young demographic where loud, and to us, obnoxious partying is the norm.
Education and ageing are the answer.

"Unfortunately due to the behaviour of certain groups of climbers/boulderers, the area might be at risk of being closed out."
The Recreation Officer in the SBNF-SJRD is quite supportive of the climbing community, but he is also aware of the abuses that have been occurring at bouldering areas like South Ridge, and now at Black Mountain. The SR abuse may be equally related to non-climbing party-heads, but regardless, with all of the well-deserved fire fears in the area, a draconian action like closure could easily be the only strategy to appease public & resident fears, and mitigate the dumbf*#k idiot-sticks who are trashing the place, and putting it at risk.

Troll or no troll, the locals are gravely concerned about any person (or group) that could conceivably put these mountains at risk. The USFS is keenly aware & sensitive to this- all it takes is one mindless f*#kwad to incinerate the future enjoyment (and possibly lives...'Esperanza Fire') of untold others.

Im not from around there but I'm asking if it's all climbers and boulderers that are the problem? Most everywhere I've been the climbers etc. are usualy in tune with the USF personal since they like to frequent this places.
And in case this is a troll,

On a positive note; The outreach designed to encourage inner-city residents to visit the wilderness appears to be working.

It's too bad that our lovely local gyms (where many of these folks seem to be getting their start) don't require ethics training of some sort before anyone can climb in them or take a class - why not make it part of the liability release people have to sign before they can use the facility? Not sure where else these people could be "educated".
These behaviors are always astonishing and infuriating to me but as the saying goes "common sense isn't so common".

I am not Suprema or whatever. I'm actually new to writing in this forum (even though I'm guilty of reading it).
We know that all the incidents are not all caused by climbers, but climbers are the ones getting the bad rep.
Thank you for letting me vent. I haven't had the opportunity to be in the situation where I caught the delincuent juveniles "in fraganti" (caught red handed), otherwise they would have gotten it in person.
What happened was that a USFS full time volunteer was camping in said area and got disturbed by the incidents afored mentioned. He approached me at the store where I work (closest thing to a visitor center) and we brainstormed on the ways we "climbers" and they "USFS" could prevent closure of this area from happening.
See, here is the deal folks, the fire situation is super delicate ( i was going to say in Idyllwild) but it is super delicate everywhere in the Pacific West Coast. When uneducated, ignorant, careless, disrespectful, juvenile delincuents start campfires in this area, means closed/restricted access situation. NO FIRES MEANS NO FIRES. The USFS was thinking about patrolling the area (armed) and enforcing the law...Yes folks, I'm not joking here. Let's see if we can raise some awareness in the area.
