Survival, I never claimed to be an aeronautical engineer, but I respectfully submit to you to
prove any of my assertions wrong. You will not succeed. After the fall of the Soviet Union
W Germany formed a wing of ex- E German Mig-29's. In exercises with F-15's and F-16's
they gave as good as they got, and those were older model Migs. The US has not flown a
true optimized air superiority fighter since the F-100 and that is totally due to idiotic generals
and admirals who scoffed at John Boyd (being ex-AF you do know about John Boyd, right?)
and his E-M Theory. We rule the air now by default, not by design. If the Russians had the
money I have no doubt they would rule the skies. They don't design planes to do everything
like we do. There's no free lunch. If you want to further this discussion I am quite happy to,
but please bring something to the table other than sarcasm and condescension.

So-----Re Reilly's mention:
But to show the AF up we brought along the F-14, which was
almost as bad as the F-111, but at least it was ours! Of course America thinks it was great,
thanks to Tom Cruise. :-)
I don't know where else I can ever tell this tale on ST!
For a short time, my early 1980’s climbing pal was an Ex-Navy fighter pilot, with experience at the end of the Vietnam war with the F14 Phantom, which he described as “ an air force jet, that was never designed to land on a carrier deck, or carry a heavy weapons load.”
So, he catapults off a carrier jet in a rough sea at night in a F14.
The F14 electronic display went out, and a short while later he loses all power.
However, he had been trained to start poking at the right buttons, & just before he hit the ocean, the displays came back.
At this point of the story, he gave me a big smile, and said:
Luckily! I was right side up!
He went on to be a member of the Navy Blue Angels before we had our climbing adventures.

Geez Fritz, it was the F4 Phantom, not F14, and it was originally designed for the Navy; entered service in 1960 and was then adopted by the the Marines and then the Air Force......

Where the Russians fail is where they always fail... in production.
This is the type of classic stupid American nationalism response at work.
When Americans first went to semiconductor solid state radars in their fighter jets the Russians still were using vacuum tube technology in theirs.
Stupid thick headed arrogant Americans thought they were advanced as usual.
They completely forgot the superiority of the saturation level of Tubes over semiconductor.
Thus the American radar would overlaod and succumb to interference where the Russian units did not.
Only after capturing one of the Russian planes did the stupid Americans realize WTF was going on.
Zombies who are running nationalism all the time in their fertile minds will succumb to poor fund of knowledge ......
