Wow, those people were feeling it! HaHaHaHa!
Werner is right. The F-35 is under-powered, un-maneuverable, un-reliable,
and over-priced. Other than that it is great! It is more of the same from
the crankloon Air Force generals who think one plane can do everything.

I bow down to your jet fighter expertise.
Strangely, we've never had another fighter with any weaknesses.
And the scariest part is that our adversaries have never produced a fighter with any weaknesses.
Gimme a break fellas.

Crankster, flattery will get you nowhere. I suppose you think Air Force
generals have a phukking clue? They've been buying the same stoopid planes
from their buddies at Northrop, Gen Dynamics, etc., since the 60's which is
when they decided, in their estimable omniscience, that they could spec a
plane that can do everything. The list of lemons is unbelievable:
B-1 Bonehead
F-111A Dorkvaard
F-15A POS They managed to rectify the original design, somewhat.
F-16 Oh, you think it is great? The original design WAS great but the
crankloons insisted it be hung with every manner of external bullcrap AND
they had to increase the wing by 20% to carry all that crap which meant its
maneuverability and speed dropped by 25-30%!
The one plane that did make it through their gauntlet of stoopidity was the
A-10 which they fought like hell AGAINST because they didn't want to be in
the business of CAS. That's Close Air Support for you experts.
E, I apologise for jacking yer great thread!

It's actually somewhat on topic Reilly. The whole military and loon connection. That song is about Josef Mengele, the infamous Nazi "Doctor" at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Right up there with Hitler in piece of sh#t status.

RJ, cause the crankloon AF turds tried to force the F-111 down our throats! Can you imagine
that POS on a flight deck? But to show the AF up we brought along the F-14, which was
almost as bad as the F-111, but at least it was ours! Of course America thinks it was great,
thanks to Tom Cruise. :-)
It's a damn good thing that neither the F-15 or the F-14 ever got into it with the Mig-29
cause it woulda kicked their azzes.

Survival, I never claimed to be an aeronautical engineer, but I respectfully submit to you to
prove any of my assertions wrong. You will not succeed. After the fall of the Soviet Union
W Germany formed a wing of ex- E German Mig-29's. In exercises with F-15's and F-16's
they gave as good as they got, and those were older model Migs. The US has not flown a
true optimized air superiority fighter since the F-100 and that is totally due to idiotic generals
and admirals who scoffed at John Boyd (being ex-AF you do know about John Boyd, right?)
and his E-M Theory. We rule the air now by default, not by design. If the Russians had the
money I have no doubt they would rule the skies. They don't design planes to do everything
like we do. There's no free lunch. If you want to further this discussion I am quite happy to,
but please bring something to the table other than sarcasm and condescension.

I don't know where else I can ever tell this tale on ST!
For a short time, my early 1980’s climbing pal was an Ex-Navy fighter pilot, with experience at the end of the Vietnam war with the F14 Phantom, which he described as “ an air force jet, that was never designed to land on a carrier deck, or carry a heavy weapons load.”
So, he catapults off a carrier jet in a rough sea at night in a F14.
The F14 electronic display went out, and a short while later he loses all power.
However, he had been trained to start poking at the right buttons, & just before he hit the ocean, the displays came back.
At this point of the story, he gave me a big smile, and said:
Luckily! I was right side up!
He went on to be a member of the Navy Blue Angels before we had our climbing adventures.

Where the Russians fail is where they always fail... in production.
This is the type of classic stupid American nationalism response at work.
When Americans first went to semiconductor solid state radars in their fighter jets the Russians still were using vacuum tube technology in theirs.
Stupid thick headed arrogant Americans thought they were advanced as usual.
They completely forgot the superiority of the saturation level of Tubes over semiconductor.
Thus the American radar would overlaod and succumb to interference where the Russian units did not.
Only after capturing one of the Russian planes did the stupid Americans realize WTF was going on.
Zombies who are running nationalism all the time in their fertile minds will succumb to poor fund of knowledge ......

What's weird is that you can actually weave the two separate parts of this thread into one.
Iron Maiden is maybe not a total death metal band, but they are certainly one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history (and as popular today as 25 years ago).
But Iron Maiden's front man/lead singer Bruce Dickinson is just as heavily involved in aviation as in music. He's a working commercial 757 and 737 pilot, a Type Rating instructor and Technical instructor on the 737, and founded and runs a respected aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) company in the UK.
Someone else can post Iron Maiden videos, but here's one of him discussing the intersection of the two worlds. (But they didn't ask him whether American Generals were crankloons or not.)

Iron Maiden, Dickinson in particular, apparently pissed off Sharon Osborne at one of the recent Ozfest. They had just started playing "Trooper", I believe and she had the power cut to the stage and came up on the p.a. talking about them disrespecting ozzy, blah, blah, blah.
The crew got the stage power back up and Iron Maiden was still playing the song and hasn't missed a note, seemingly. Pretty cool display of professionalism under stress.

I've hung out a lot in the boonies of Cabeza Prieta NWR, which is just south of the Goldwater Gunnery Range in SW AZ.
I got to watch them dogfight day and night. It was pretty cool. The place is littered with shell casings. An A-10 casing is big enough to drink coffee out of.
On the east side it was mainly F-16's. The dogfights only took 30 seconds or so. On the west side it was the Harriers, and those were LOUD.
Kind of weird to be in such a wild place and have all that going on above you. It was mostly silent, and as far as I could tell, the noise didn't really affect anything.
One time 2 A-10's flew very close to me, very low. The second one came around and flew inverted over me. I always wondered if they saw me and were checking me out. It seemed like it, but I dunno.

i adore death.
all of my life,
i court her.
someday i'll be hers.
and i gleefully anticipate
that day.
though i do not yet wish it.
it is a privilege
that i must earn.
no shortcuts.
daily i'm just shy
of a self-inflicted
gunshot wound to the head.
that'd be simple.
like a trip to the shiter.
no. not me.
no suicide.
i wear life like a badge.
someone will have to peel it from me.
while i kick and spit.
though i like to get close.
to her.
death.
i do.
she is quite attractive in
her mystery.
she is mine.
poor thing.
she can't stand straight
in my company.
she shakes in the knees
and her vagina weeps.
but i do not
engage her intimately.
i just tease.
because you gotta leave
the please unanswered.
and daily she
beckons.
and i show up.
and blow her.
kisses.
and she begs of me, more.
like real copulation.
it is then that i disappear
into the storm.
a drop of refrain
among a billion drops of rain.

F-35A is a piece of sh!t aircraft against the Sukhoi Su-35S Flanker-E .....
Interesting assessment, ducky.
Two f 15 's have ever been lost in combat, one by AAA and one by a Sam SE-2 in desert storm in January, 1991, involving the loss of one crew member
There has never been one shot down by opposing aircraft since they were first deployed in the 1970's in all air forces, including Israel and Saudi Arabia. ( 100+ victories)
There are 51 Su-35s' in active service and 48 more ordered. None has seen combat or shot down an enemy aircraft. The Russians are offering them for sale to virtually any takers including Indonesia, China, India, and Brasil. No takers. Wonder why?
the biggest losses are f15's running into each other and training exercises. In fact, not even an A-10 has ever been lost to enemy aircraft. ( a buddy of mine flew both in his 20 year career) Makes you wonder why the f22 was developed.

( Not An Original idea, think clasped hands & Rosary) ;~Df
When I went digital from film I went crazier than I am now -with redundant pictures
of obscure lakes & beaches . . .
of pictures of the young & old hands that summer brought to those places
This started after the kids , the other life guards , not really my charges,
were reportedly seen getting high while on duty. I was then told to sit in the ceremonial life guard stand, that sat front and center of this beach club. The spot had a commanding view
So I was good at my job, and though I never saw any 'reefers' the cameras' focus was always
Set to close up, and almost all the pictures were of hands .

Marlow, that Carst you posted sounds much like some of the pieces I recorded years ago on a CD project KaliYuga -- particularly the tracks where I used a detuned bass guitar played with a cello bow. I never knew quite how to classify my genre. It was pretty much all dark ambient, made with no computers, no EDM "beats," a lot of drone characteristic though other aspects on some of the tracks too. You probably would like some of it. I gave up playing music intensively when I got heavily into climbing. But I still really like listening to stuff like that when I'm driving a long road trip in the dark of night. Those yellow road paint dashes flipping past and dark ambient drone music just totally work together.

The Pogues - Turkish Song Of The Damned
I come old friend from hell tonight
Across the rotting sea
Nor the nails of the cross
Nor the blood of christ
Can bring you help this eve
The dead have come to claim a debt from thee
They stand outside your door
Four score and three
Did you keep a watch for the dead man's wind
Did you see the woman with the comb in her hand
Wailing away on the wall on the strand
As you danced to the turkish song of the damned
You remember when the ship went down
You left me on the deck
The captain's corpse jumped up
And threw his arms around my neck
For all these years I've had him on my back
This debt cannot be paid with all your jack
And as I sit and talk to you I see your face go white
This shadow hanging over me
Is no trick of the light
The spectre on my back will soon be free
The dead have come to claim a debt from thee

There are other versions online that don't have the Vikings show videos added...but it's kinda fun this way

Marlow I never made videos of the stuff. I am right now trying to find it on MP3.com where I uploaded the tracks years ago. They've changed that site so much.
I'm so glad Shane MacGowan finally got his mouth worked on.

Check out the first track Storm Warning.
These guys are probably SLC's best local metal band, and excellent live!

Deathblow "Prognosis Negative" single track video. WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!! SICK SICK SICK!

"Demolition Deployment" earlier this year. These guys were excellent live last week, playing again Nov 1. Making SLC a better place. The audio track is pretty muddy but this version gives their live flavor pretty well. Lighting starts out dim but brightens up and gets flashy when the music picks up. There are other versions, cleaner audio right from Cd.

And of course, Deathblow opens for the other best band in SLC...Visigoth!
Revenant King
"Your life will slake the soil's thirst for sacrifice and blooded stone"
That's a great line!
"And none shall weep..."
I like the Amon Amarth-ish instrumental and the whole song.
This video sound sucks-- there's MUCH better sound quality out there on their various videos, but this one's a fun live vid. This guy's got load of stage charisma. They're excellent live in SLC with their local fan following who knows all the songs.[Click to View YouTube Video]

He's also associated with Gallowbraid and Caladan Brood, both excellent projects

During WW 2, Operation Bagraition, a Soviet Offensive against German Army Group Center, was considerably larger, more successful and more destructive than any offensive conducted by the U.S. The Russian Army had to bear the brunt of Germany's military might. We had our hands full dealing with just a small part of it.

Reilly and then Werner called it 3 years back.
All US F-35's grounded. All RAF planes as well. It make you wonder, given the complexities, how easy it would be to take these down.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45827795
"The temporary suspension of all F-35 flights is an embarrassment given the extraordinary cost of this frequently troubled programme. But the problem has already been identified as faulty fuel tubes. Once these are checked or replaced the aircraft will be back in the air.
The F-35 is only just entering service but it is already the most expensive weapons programme of all time.
It will equip the US Air Force and Marine Corps as well as several of Washington's allies. It represents a step-change in capability but the F-35's complexity has inevitably thrown up problems."
