I agree with Donini. "Fastest to the top and back." The epitome of going hard, to the top, then running back down. What could be more fun and worthy than that. I'd post a time too if it were me. Its fun to know how fast people do things and serves as a benchmark for like minded people who might try later.

All the people who poo poo this as bragging or spray are just jellyous cause they be slow.

I think the official record should be from Curry pizza bar to Curry pizza bar. :). That would add 30 minutes easily.

I'm suprised his shortcut saved him time given the bushy and semi technical terrain.

How old is Dean now?

wouldn't it be faster to do it all via the death slabs?

Super cool. That is a smoking fast time, very impressive. I'd like to hear more of Dean's unknown exploits. He has blown us all away so many times with his major ones, I am sure there are a few that would be jaw dropping that we don't know about. Keep it up Dean, you da man baby.

"Real Running Skill" is trumped by speed on 3rd, 4th and fifth - trust me, if it was easy to be faster, people would be faster. Assuming the climbing itself from base to summit is 30 min, that leaves like 40 min to get to the base of snake dike... that dude is an aerobic MACHINE.

Nice work!

It is a clear route, from base to top and back...

Good point GDavis. I wonder what his time on Snake Dike was.

Where's Leor Pantilat? He'll shave an hour off that time and take a million pictures along the way!

That dude is solid! I follow his facebook.

Freakin' ridiculous!

Any word on where here started/stopped that's more specific than "the Valley floor"?

Death slabs to the base of the cables might be the ticket.

Batmanning the fixed lines would disqualify you IMO.

What about batmanning the cables?

Good point. It should just be "as#@&%es and elbows" to the top and back by any means.
It's sad to see the trail running aspect fading into obscurity tho. : (

Leconte gulley actually begins very near the John Muir trailhead at Happy isles - that is probably why Potts chose it.
I did it to Diving board in the 70's, but as an all day slog, and using aid.

I think there is room for two records. The trail, with no shortcuts, and to the summit and back by any means.
The first is a measure of trail running fitness that is easily compared to others. The second quantifies fitness, boldness, athleticism and ingenuity.

Mountain FKT's are route independent, fastest way to the summit and back. The runners would take the shortcuts if they could.

I wonder if Dean could challenge Rolo's Grand Traverse time? If he's interested in the hybridization of mountain running and climbing, it's pretty much the gold standard.

No, not any more than a climber grabbing every quickdraw and claiming a redpoint. You'll get DQ'd in an American trail race.

"FKT" means nothing until it's repeated.
