I know a number of older climbers, myself included, who appear more soiled than spoiled?

I admit that I am completely spoiled as I refuse to drink cheap wine or beer. ;-)

Donini! Re your comment:

Yeah, but you are one of the favored few that still gets to bore captive audiences with slide shows while displaying your wit & wisdom.

I am very jealous, but you deserve the captive audiences & I don't.

Mark! I'm with you on the good wines part of your post!

Fritz, Look forward to sharing!

Jim, Definitely no PBR! Top Ramen in a pinch if I'm hungry enough (I'd have to be really hungry..).

PS I have a stovetop espresso machine with steamer, too! ;-)

That is both incredibly cool and intriguing. Pray tell more.....

I see that a slide show from Fritz would be x rated in addition to being a hilarious romp thru obscure adventures.

I don't know, Kevin. I enjoyed climbing 45 years ago, and I still enjoy it now. Spoiled? You bet, and loving every minute of it.

Old climbers are spoiled by bouldering pads, sticky rubber, camming devices, cell phones, head lamps, harnesses, kernmantel ropes, pile clothing, breathable fabric, portaledges, lightweight carabiners, quick draws, modern ice tools, and legions of hot women with eyes all asparkle about climbing.

I'd rather have none o that and lots of unclimbed classics, and gas for 20 cents a gallon.

Well, I don't know. Without all those new-fangled gadgets, chances are I can't get up any unclimbed classics, so what would be the use of having them?

As for the legions of sparkly-eyed hot women, the idea that those eyes might somehow be asparklin' for me pretty much defines wishful thinking.

I'd guess closer to 400

At 133 years experience per poster, we would be well into our Methuselahtic primes.

Sometimes it does feel like 133, but I've only logged 58 climbing years, thank you very much...

...at which point, to return to the theme of the thread, spoilage, if not outright putrefaction, is a distinct possibility.

By now I've learned, that when it comes to threads about old climbers, I should just sit back and read what people who have climbed longer than I've lived have to say.

And we have lots of things to say, for example

"Sorry, but I really need to slow down a bit."

"Hey, you got any ibuprofen? I finished my bottle."

"Hang on, I gotta go pee again."

"Dammit, where did I put my car keys?"

"How 'bout we do...ah...what's the name of that route? It's only 5...its, uh, just...mmm...not too bad."

Rgold, pretty neat!

Earliest register of mine I could find in the Tetons...neat database. Thanks, Paul!

Here's a fun one:

Assuming that was probably a solo ascent...wow...
