Well slaunch-wise (a brand new one on me) I'll just slide this in here.

MFM had #6650 (the last) on the 'real' The Flames thread.

#6650 here on this hear one

"The education of a young woman" if memory serves.

Brook, are you referring to a specific work by Mary Wollstonecraft or by Jane Austen, two experts of their time?
--curious in Merced

2 * 6650 = 13200, so by some reckoning, post number 10,000 is long gone.

Like I was a sayin' where do we go from here?

As 'the other' reverend says, we deserve a happy ending, right?

The Aardvark's House

On the way to an odd destination
I stopped at the Aardvark's to warm up my feet
His fire was stoked but he wasn't around
So I sat down to take in some heat
In his soft comfy chair I had drifted away
When something woke me from my sleep
A big rhinoceros sat snoring nearby
He had snuck in the house without making a peep

I looked at him once with a quizzical eye
Then yawned once or twice like we do
Then returning to dreamland I slept for a bit
Then woke with a start to the smell of pee-yew
Sitting next to the rhino a skunk gently slept
Nothing strange there I thought with ennui
And fell back asleep once again for awhile
Never minding our host might be long overdue

Something brushed past my feet and woke me again
Standing by the fire was a bear
Warming his paws as he gave me a glance
Then settled himself in a chair
With one eye open I stared at the group
Not to worry I thought without care
Wondering where that damned aardvark had gone
And wishing that soon he'd be there

Throughout the evening more animals arrived
I don't think I slept but a wink
A porcupine, a badger, and a camel dropped in
And the room was beginning to stink
Finally I stood and walked 'twards the door
And clumsily spilled someone's drink
Some insults were hurled and a fight broke out
I was thrown out the window I think

Then I ran to the woods taking cover by darkness
And that's when I first smelled the smoke
The Aardvarks home had started on fire
So I ran back inside just to choke
The house was deserted with no one about
As I felt like the butt of a sinister joke
Then the Aardvark arrived and we put out the fire
But my heart did go out to the bloke

"What the hell happened?" he asked me
You might guess I was quite at a loss
And made no mention of his rowdy guests
To such wild explanations he would likely get cross
So resigning myself I feigned ignorance
Expecting the Aardvark would give me the toss
But that fellow it turned out was surprisingly gracious
And we sat in his kitchen eating dried ants with moss

Thank you, Feralfae

Tried watching Inferno, but it was getting late so I'll finish it tomorrow night. 'Manchester by the sea' was a great movie, totally heartbreaking, well worth the watch, stellar! Sad to read about the past sexual harassment accusations against the lead actor, still was a great job he did with the role, Oscar worthy.
Not condoning the sexual abuse thing though.

The Hotel Mysterioso Merced Blues

Oh where oh where
Did the Mouseman go?
We really miss him
We'd like him to know

Fa la Frank sat
When he trimmed his toes
We wondered where to stand
When the wind it blows
Oh no
Whoa whoa

Oh what oh what
Can the Mouseman be doin'?
Howz he gonna keep
His banjo in tune?

Bleat bleat Granny sat
When she blew her nose
We never knew where to sit
When the wind it blows
Oh no
Whoa whoa

Oh damn oh damn
Will the Mouseman have spam?
Or will he have to join
The Spew Splats Spam?

Bonk bonk Peppy stunk
Like a Bordeaux skunk
We don't know where to run
When he hoists his trunk
Oh no
Whoa whoa

Oh where oh where
Did the Mouseman go?
Did he climb Mt Starr King
Just to measure the snow?

Whaah whaah Mouse run
Don't look at the sun
The F stop says
Two million and one
Oh no
Whoa whoa

Time for another poem, keeping the fire stoked in our host's absence.

... a Beautiful Day in my Neighborhood

Thomas is fast as a bird
Very fast as you might've heard
He yawns as the wind whips by
And his long life passes by my door
With the passing of time
As his young life speeds by

And you might've heard
Of Sugar McNurd
He was the governor of the land of Numb
Inside his own mind
Man he is dumb

Gandy the jazz man is hard at work
Joyfully jammin' with Random Berserk

Grizzly Barb works the day shift
Flaring her nostrils when she lifts
She booted her husband last night
Not because of his limp
Or that he was an imp
But mainly because he
Was a pathetic little wimp

Tony the mouth breather is under the weather
But he makes his dogs wear leather
They always get out at two AM
So I take them all in
And he never notices
He is that lame

These are my neighbors
Well, some of my favorites
We all get along
Not staring in each other's windows or yards

For we all live in houses of cards
With cards made of glass
We leave well enough alone
Whistling in darkness
And never throw stones

,.?.

no problem with crickets, here in the new normal
For weather around the edge of the north-eastern coastal plain
stranger than candy theses days, but it has led to
Crickets and peeper frogs all year 'round!

I made a point to aim some lights across the drive way in year end rains.
The tell tale glistening flickers of movement,
Hoping across the beam
proof of the never before seen
Christmas frog!

in a bit

Ive a flat bump of a stump of ab ash that tower'd to close over the house.
On that base, a natural castle, I've placed a well sculpted,
flat stone, lying tilted up against by another scalloped,
saucer shaped rock. covering the rest of diameter of the stump,
overhanging the edge in spots
The cricket house

This is a tiny but immediate result of the newly defunded EPA.
I did not need any permits to build close to the wetlands !

I hope to but it might V bin D'A floooo as wll as not vowels x dollars zero sense no
Cents, 4 ;( times now Jamming .,!? Determined not to over pay then having to carefully
Make a switch !?
Then try to get all elevated costs from recent events cable bundling
has very dire consequences if you slip up,
IF YOU GET PUSHED UP !
it is hard to ref qualify ?
Any Deposite draws on that no end from the middle.
Pray if there's his pride I'd know, he wants as the months go,m
So help please,m I'd- if could, for me my harping on it is Frank,
making it worse is harping on the thing

ff!,

then I was trying to say

here to
a terrible and hastily forced on the city ,

a down-town that need a reviving not an overwhelming.

The barracks, you describe are, here, nice looking

Tudor style, Tri & 4plexes buildings

built six in a round on 160 foot street -
Spaced very close together ! 4000+, units
for as far as the eye can see.

This is fenced all the way around. &. surrounded by acres of parking
that further obliterates what's left of wet-lands of a already " Boxed" river.

Sorry to have had such a hard time with that !

Ho my goodness FF I'm the sad lone voice as a once mighty factory grounds of 15 acres
Of center of town land the sat empty for 38, yrs after it became
a Super Fund toxic Clean Up site
For the last 20 yrs there have been attempts provide a plan to rejuvenate
The down town. After A 2 years, the are that strange four story facing each other in a staggered circle , for as far as the eye can see, 4000 + unit project development .
With a 40% low income requirement, it breads slum lords who buy up blocks!

We have some new hyper-dense apartment housing, here in town, that looks like barracks. Not in a flood plain, I think, but so dense that I doubt the south-facing first floor units get any winter direct sun due to the shadowing from the closely-built barracks that are further south by only a few feet. Grim looking place, but they do have a nice, open, sunny playground.

Ducks Unlimited and other private organizations do a lot of fundraising to purchase and save wetlands, but probably it is never enough. Audubon does a lot as well. And Nature Conservancy.

Interesting information.

Still crickets.
