from 9am till 1pm
I can not not be picked
all dolled up
dressed Loike Bobby wier in button down and Kahki
I was running' home to
post up and change into Your flag wearing the-dye
but the wife says that won't cut it
raising children not goats
or the dickens, but stillyhis could be a hell of a thee weeks in November

What?. . . . . ( I need to get a good High Def picture )
on the left seam . . .
Anyone recognize realized ultimate protection scars?
I used to feel strong regret at the sloppy damaging job
I always strove to get good enough to free that line.
So now the ugly is a sweet reminder of loads of fun and what made
me confident and strong in the way of the force

So I went out to the Cinema today, which proved eventful.

It's been a full morning.
I'd been intent on reading about Mark Speckman. I heard the words reunion and restaurant and looked up at the man sitting at the counter talking to another one. I did the double take and it is definitely Carvel Oliver Williams, president of our senior class and center on the varsity football squad.
We sat together and Mike showed up almost immediately. Then into the diner comes Larry Huey, another footballer from a slightly younger class with his buddy.
Then who should appear but Skip. It was sorta crazy, but we all enjoyed a good breakfast, some great stories, and then went outside to stand around and jaw some more.
CO was a PG&E lineman, foreman, and trouble-shooter, and Larry was a backhoe operator for the company, too. They had worked together some when CO was still around here. He now has a place on the Russian River and has invited me up. Mike spent the weekend following the 50th reunion up there with him.

Then Larry's buddy had to split, so he did, too. But before they left, I got Veronica to take our picture.
When Skip parted company, that left the three of us to try the vape that Mike bought and never used. He offered it to CO, who jammed to his place and came back fifteen minutes later with the wherewithal for a safety meeting.

We adjourned to Middle Earth and rocked to our classmate Rod Whittaker's tunes and to Lee Michaels and to the Brogues. I finally explained the mysteries of the vape device to the guys and we had a productive meeting.

We parted until the next time.

I hope there is a next time.

Well now that I've entirely, uh, almost entirely caught up.
I've got nothing left to say.
That may never be true I've always said to much
That mfm has people whom have been in the periferie of his life
For 50 odd years is a blessing unto it self and of course a curse as the willful ghost
Comes knockin'
Fear no pathos though
They look like life has been well lived by all of them
Cheers to all of them

It is crux time on a Friday night, to take a drive into the night?
If only to not cop
Or get cop stopped?
I'm a cross one three or is it four days out?
No answer on the phone
Go to the place and sit in a driveway ?
Wait till tomorrow ? Or go now ?

NO, WAY!

I'm Not letting you off the hook Mr GUIDE a simple look at what you say, it seems you might already adhere to A rule or some as well;I think the First rule all guides should have to adhere to is:

DO NOT - TAKE PEOPLE FOR PAY - ON WEEKENDS - UP TRADE ROUTES!

That's a trade -off you should embrace.
If you have the skills, find an open climb

you should know that, your charge and you are safer, your stated priority,
with your party away from others.. Us less competent able climbers...?

Looks like we might not reach an agreement. . . ?

I took no late ride
So now
At 2am I'm up

moe an like Lee

For da duration.

As for my civic duty?

I've been released and should receive a letter saying the
One long day fulfilled my civic duty for three years at least.

I'm to animated to be picked to sit on a jury.

The day:
I Slept, so after the rise. Making lunches - rats to busses.

Showered, left the hard growth on the cheeks n chin.
I pulled into the court -house ten minutes late. That's the way to begin?
Ho great 1st impressions and all that
3rd floor as quick as the old elevator would carry me.

The door to the jury room was locked .
A kindly judge was entertaining
I'd missed a lot .
He had explained , and introduced our civic duty.
At a point he was at a loss for words.
Saying that he often, after a jury trial, and in speaking with juries
He always found it ___ ( some thing ) that our jury system worked
It was a raise your hand to be acknowledged to speak, I was in the front row,
Some one else's hand was up and was received or their question taken first,
Then by my turn, the lost word and sentiment was gone but
When asked" yes, you had a question. I answered
" the word you were looking for was REAFIRMING."
Back a taken the the judge squared his gaze and said yes re-affirming, that's a good word".
( how to get out of jury duty? Be a smart ass )
When the conversation was some time on
The judge had earlier, professed he did not like the Yankees baseball team,
(neither a Red Sox fan), because ,
he explained growing up he had been a Cleavland Indians fan. He then said:
""And for all those years of great Indians' teams they all ways came in second to who?""
I'm quick, and I wanted out of jury duty, having come in late and all ,
I couldn't resit the moment and so in answer to his question
I said "" Boston"" loudly,( gaphaww ) strike one.

The day proceeded at a dull roll. As in two potential jurors interviewed in four hours.
Lunch, was 1-2 I could run home and don a tyedye and painters shorts.
Clambering attire.
The wife was not amused. She refused to let me change, saying ;
we have kids to raise in this community.

So back to -argh- (some French word that they were using to describe the proceedings )
I'll back edit it in.
Deliberations it aint!

As it rounded 3 pm my phone buzzed.
No one ever calls, no one!

Hello! I look it is the older one!?
She's out side?
Locked out!?
Asking "when are you and mommy coming? "
And "why did you lock me out?"

Now to answer a phone call in the juorors' holding room, you have to
be witnessed by the jovial women, the clerk.

"" Um, sweetheart, you are not locked out""
I said.
" Daddy-o, don't tease. Where are you and mommy?""
Honey pie, I'm still downtown remember j u r y duty I said slowly.
This was not well received by my 1st spurt, she has to be seen to be believed.
Standing a 4' 6" or is 4" 6' she is thin sweet, awkward in her own skin.
It is a Geourges day outside Blue bird ( well no snow) the nieborhood is very safe and the yard is big with seats around and a bench at the front door.
No need to worry at all.
The court clerk is listening I'm in her space her office.
"" kiddo - is there a car in the driveway?"", yes daddy-o
Well ring the door bell the dog will bark,
The clerk? She is thinking ??
Again I say look just wait she is walking the dog

The call ends the clerk says are you going to call your wife?
I explain that, if the kid was in trouble need a bathroom or anything ,
She could go to anyone of the neighbor's
She is a sophomore In high school.
A docent at a local museum
and fully capable of staying put, or calling her mother her self.

For which I received a scowl.
So I went further - to explain look at my address.
It is not the two family norm, in this city.
we live on Payton Place, or very much like it.
rows of perfectly kept single family homes.
And there is no way in the 1290 square feet 1/2 up 1/2 down
(at grade on a slab no basement,)
that my wife could be hiding.
Gail, the court clerk is a sweet-hart,
really, she gets me ( I hope?)
and is thinking about the initial phone call.( I hope)
She may have been forming a worse opinion, but saw what I was saying .
Just the same you can make a phone call sign the log.....
Ugh,
One ringy-dingy 1/2 a second dingy- hello why are you calling?
Momz! What? Your daughter has just called she says you are locked in and she out.
What is going on I can't leave you two alone evha?
Go get her the court wants this resolved ( Gwaphaw )

I have no idea what Gail really thought but it was a-ok, and phone call logged.
I returned to my seat.

So about ten minutes after 3pm the Gail, the clerk, stepped into the room from her office.
She explained that no way were the attorney's going to get to all of us.
And if we all agreed, by a show of hands she would put all our names
into some randomize-ing program to get half of us dismissed? What a load of bull...
get outta here....
Any way we all agreed and at 20 after 3 she read five names off a list
With dramatic pause after the fourth, she said the Gnomes name last....
Sweet...

As to the not going by the name Gnome?
I've really taken on a look, of gno mush pluck... (Sorry I couldn't resist)
For the middle age spread hasn't stopped
It is
It's sad I'm not a climber holding up a dramatic 'V' shape
Shoulders once. Broad and wide now dwarfed
By a bought & paid for belly.

I'm not proud of the way I've struck this look
Hooked nose and squinty eyes from creased eye holes often hollow from little sleep
I am the Gnome no getting past it
Red swami knows, and if he ever wants to climb he should say so!
He will not his anchor knot is blue! Happy to see you though dude I always thought us friends I guess I was always after Ian and blue a persona-non-a grata ,
Stuff it dude ! Do you still hear from Owen?

On Temple Crag
September, 1996

I cannot sleep 'till late this night
Dark and grey streaked black
The Sun Ribbon arête
Stands out on left to east skyline
Under the brilliant starlight

I cannot sleep
No hundred year war foreboding
How many stars are there tonight?
3×10 to the power of 23?
Out in the universe
They must have all come out tonight

I dream of something new tonight
Lifting high a good sized rock
I place my taped up wrist against a boulder
It's been bothering me for months now
But I won't allow myself strike
And crush this one good chance to climb

Waking up I spy the route
And contemplate the dream state
And all of its absurdity
My friend does not deserve it
Neither do I
Well intentioned or otherwise

Coffee after the alarm rings
I steel myself to the long ascent
Up shaded snow bank six am
Roped pitches now
The first a left faced corner
Soaring up an alpine jaunt

So gritty yet
The cold stone feels a disconnect
But solid as the ages
Easy ground after a bit
For rope length after rope length

Up to the closest star
The only one of trillions left
So dazzling brilliant
Descending it warms us now
On a ledge below a tombstone slab

Little mantles stair stepping up
To a crack that diagonals out and left
Then face holds up to right off gear
Produce sharp edges onto where
A dizzy move or two to go

Treading light I breathe deep
On sparkling gems this route has known
The crisp arête is to my right
On to pinnacles aligned
Irregularly jumbled

There on a cockscomb ridge
Off to west we go
Up and down winding around
Rappelling here
And fourth class there

With no time for fancy tyroleans
A wandering minstrels we must go
Our only song the rasping of our breaths
For hour upon hour
To make the summit before sunset

A short rappel down to the notch
And glissading for two thousand feet
We find our packs
To take one long look back
At that arête on Temple Crag

A final climb before
How long again I cannot know
Twenty long years
Have blinked and since gone by
And I've barely touched the stone

We beat the path out to the car
A blister where my heart once was
One sneaker now with just a hole
Where did the other go?

Scientists thought spiders were only able to pick up on noises within just a few feet of their bodies. But new research suggests one species of jumping spider, Phidippus audax, can actually hear sounds from as far away as 10 feet.

Look familiar?
