I've been posting on that politics thread again so, my bad. It's really unimportant and time consuming. My heartfelt best wishes to you Brian. Keep us posted when you have time.

Hey there, nay, it wasn't my studio...

It was the place I grew up in. (Sorta.)

http://www.mercedsunstar.com/news/local/article102387262.html

The fire began in the carport next to our place and jumped to ours. No one was home at the Johnsons' old place. The six members of the family who rented our place from the guy who bought it got out safely.

I stopped by on the way back into town. I talked to Jeff Baladad, the owner, a brother of an old friend, Danny B, who taught HS in Merced.

Lenna had a tale about Carole Johnson, the beauty who loved Elvis BITD. She and her girlfriends heard from Carole's sister Jill that she often sunbathed with no top. They called one day when she was in that mode. They went to the fence and watched the hussy get up and go in to answer the phone.

WHY DIDN'T WE GUYS KNOW ABOUT CAROLE'S PENCHANT FOR THIS ACTIVITY?

It was a helluva trip up in the mtns.

Got to Pinecrest. Got to Twain-Harte Lake. Took a ramble down the ditch.

Took some decent Harvest Moon shots last night/this morning.

Great fun with the cat.

Turkeys. Trout. Deer. Jays. FOOD! REST! LUV and LAFFS.

Mort to come.

Gotta doze.

Burnin' Glover...the Story of the Great Meatfest Holocaust and How High Traverse Saved the Bacon Only To Watch As Giant Elvis Came and Stole It Away.

Can't wait for the book launch party!

Meanwhile, Valley Walls by Glen Denny will have to suffice.

Just got it at the library and it looks every bit as good as bacon tastes.

But then there's my sister and her cooking...
I'm decidedly enjoying my own El Capitan omelet right this minute. Alfalfa sprouts, cheese, avacado, mushrooms. Home fries.

This was Thursday afternoon. Came home to vodka tonics and steak and bakers.

Two of the places I spent time growing up in have been demolished. One in National City, to make way for a mini-mall and the post war housing project which became the Junior High School.

I'm sorry to hear about your fire, but you know where there are Flames, there are sometimes arsonists and/or careless electricians.

Please slap me silly if I try to drink an entire pot of c-c-coffee at 4 a.m. again.
After so long a time w/o the drug, I'm so wired I should have gone to the anti-meth rally in Courthouse Park today to warn others of the dangers of speed.
Seattle Super-Charge Dark Roast.

The full harvest moon may have been worth it, though.
There was a gang of turkeys on the front lawn on Wednesday. They did not hang around, true to their nature. We waited. NO TURKEYS!!!!

I saw another gang wandering around down by Brentwood Lake (private) on Thursday.

No sighting until this morning when Nancy and I were nearly down the hill to Hwy 108. Eleven of 'em!

Bingo!Of which, more anon. Break time...almost 4:20.

zBrown, it's the "Dawn Wan Effect," which is simply stated as:

"Dos pavos pueden estar en el mismo lugar y al mismo tiempo, excepto durante la Cuaresma y uno siempre aparecerá un poco más pálido que el otro."

Lenna's going to the coast this week. Asilomar.

Bon voyagee, lennypenny!

And WHAT does that ICE CLIMBERT think he's doing in the middle of my travelogue? He'd better be Rick Steves, by GOD.
Well, did you say grace, you lazy pig?
Little does he know, it's parakeet seed, not Red Bull seeds. No wings for you, chi-chi.

The local guide shop provided their most experienced and canny angler/raconteur for this little voyage down the watery way locals call "The Ditch," oddly enough.

When she says bait, she means Patzuke's.

It took her two minutes to hook up and land the first fish, a thirteen incher. There was a convertible Porsche that couldn't hold the turn at the top of the grade at speed. It ended up right side up in the ditch, the driver inside, unharmed, wondering why am I still here?

Straight from the lennypenny files.Tough day at the office? Boy, this is the answer! F that 5.10 at the gym!
Then she started to tell me about the duck she saw here once and only once. He was smoking Tareytons back then.
They get a lot of snow on the ridge. Same elevation as the other Ditch to the south.
Break time.

Truly a mind-blowing scene...the slow destruction of the forest as we once knew it.

...and the forest echoes with chain saws...
Da-da-duh. Da-da-duh. Da-da-da duh-duh-duh...

Cry me a river. It will rebound someday.

Meanwhile, there's a trail to follow and more to see than the eye can behold.

I am so grateful for this walk. Tanks for the respite, Lord.
This is down the ditch from where we left off.

I will resume in the morning. It's been a long, long day.

A whiter shade of pale?

I Remember Fish Fridays

I wonder, have you seen this brother-lunker
lurking in the lee of the last bridge we went under?

He’s the brother of the mother-lunker
that my sister lennypenny had for late lunch last October.

Or was it early November? Hell, I can’t remember.
It was in season. She had no reason to believe otherwise.

Call it late October and if it’s a problem,
then try to pretend that the Giants have just won the Series again.

I had a hunch that she would like to be apprised
should anyone see the brother (whose fillets will be highly prized)
of the late lamented mother-lunker that my younger sibling lennypenny
had for late lunch last October.

Drunk or sober, she claims it was in October, etc.

Catch Me If You Can

We’re all fish swimming in McCovey Cove
We’re stay-at-homes and we never rove.
F the Dodgers! & screw the ump!
This lagoon smells like a dump.
Why don’t we go upstream and spawn?
This game’s over. It’s a yawn.
The game’s only hit was a single grounder.
The ump is fishier than that old flounder.
I know a sushi bar that’s not second rate.
It’s run by a tuna called Master Bayte.
We’ll be back before the stretch, McCovey.
Let's hit it now, my lovey-dovey.

She was said to be a native of Patagonia, Oregon, visiting, but WITH a valid out-of-state license. There is only this lovely memoir of the day the dam broke and she was among the victims along with poor Canada Dan and the miserable flock of sick critters he was nursing back to where they didn't need looking after except by poor Dog-Dog the mongrel Aussie mutt, ever-watchful now in the blue yonder.

Sad story, but lennypenny sez it's true and she's in good with the Rev and...

the Rev never lies. That's Rule Number 1.

He's not much of a fisherman, see. but don't hold it against him.

Neither was our Grandad.Leonard, the shooting of fish is outlawed in California, just like in Nevada.

Leonard hailed from Boise.
He really didn't give a damn if he ever caught a fish.
He just built dams so they could have a nice place to live.
I think he was green, especially after too many bottles of Shellac.
"Shellac" is just a name for Montana's Finest, Select, the Choice of Winners.

Let me thank whoever posted their offer of a ride on the 21st or 22nd to Facelip.

I see the post has disappeareded in the dust and flying hooves of my return to the plains, however.

My Apoloosian apology app told me to give this a whirl and to throw in a negative RSVP. I thought when I saw it, "The 22nd might be too late," but in fact, I miscalculated the date.

I meant to get back, but I never did...seems that I floated down the ditch and got carried away, never getting to say,
"Thanks, but and so forth."

But I didn't. So many things to remember. I should write things down a lot more often on post-its and paste post-its all over the computer monitor.
So, what I mean to say is that I was confused on dates, and if the offer still stands, I'll take it.

PM me or post here again.

I'm very sorry if it appeared that I was blowing you off or ignoring you.

"Crow is very satisfying, once you've choked it down."--Miss Martha Stewart

I should write a self-help book (on Post-Its) called Eat Crow, Pray.

I did, in fact, "borrow" a half-tablet of them from lennypenny (in orange).

All this is preamble. We waste so much paper in this electronic age.

I was going to respond to Bushman's words:

"And oh o moon
Don't you know?
We've been packin' it all up
Ready to go
But they don't want our kind there wherever we go
And that's how it's always been don't you know?
So we're here stuck with ourselves
And our woe"

I saw this bumper-sticker on a jalopy parked in front of the control tower out at the Spaceport Spaces-for-Rent place. It read:

"Earth First. We'll get to the rest of the Solar System when we're done here."

Total Eclipse of the Death Star

The brown planet below turned silently on its axis.
Its oceans brown with scum,
Its mountains clogged with muddy slime,
The voyagers cringed and murmured among themselves
In their soft and sibilant tongue.
"Too damn late. They've sealed their fate.
At this rate, they'll all be dead in a few years.
We'll have to pack it in here.
We should have known.
There's fifty-million more just like this in the Known and Unknown Universe of Empires.
But how does one really know when a planet expires?"

It was then we attacked and ripped off their ship.
We were camouflaged and quick
And they had time to realize only that they were dying.
We commandos, having taken the sting out of their tails
(Which were good on a spit over red-hot coals)
Grinned and called the women and children saying:

"The death star is now dark.
So now let us all depart.
The next stop is somewhere beyond Infinity's Rainbow
So let's go, and don't be slow, this is THE REALLY BIG SHOW."
The ladies from the hook shop get on first. That's Rule Number Two.

Cut to the interior of a run-down single-wide in back of the place...

Cool Bridget's focus on single life and her career is interrupted when she finds herself pregnant, but with one hitch ... she can only be fifty percent sure of the identity of her baby's father.

"Hmm...What now?
Venusians allow dual citizenship.
Dork is Venusian.
That settles it.
If it's a girl, she'll be Dork's baby.
If it's a boy it'll be Marky Marr's baby.
He's totally out of this world for a Manamarsian."

She turns off the video of Marky Marr's latest road gig and starts packing, taking care that the set of mirrors is packed in lots of pillows and blankets.
God only knows how he managed it.
