Bird of Paradise

With sapphire for her crown,
And with the Libyan wine
For lustre of her eyes;
With azure on her feet
As though she trod the skies;
Then iris for her vest,
Rose, ebony, and flame
(The bird that Camoens
Won for his golden lay),
She lives a thing enthralled.
In forests that are old,
As old as is the Moon.

on coalwood pool, mcdowell county

empty promises on the billboards
strung between lifeless towns

"up from the ashes"
"America great again"

what were the suckers thinking
"they're coming to take our jobs"

but they had no jobs
no pay
no future

nothing to spare for juan or maria
even though they call themselves Americans, too

things may even out when the next ice age shows up
quien sabe?

He is said to be Hardly Visible, but this is highly doubtful.
More news later, sometime when we get a break from the election coverage.

Lynne, OMG! Thank you for the lavish props.

People also ask: What is a talent worth?

Talent (weight) ... Some authorities say that the talent typically weighed about 33 kg (75 lb) varying from 20 to 40 kg. In June, 2018, the international price of gold was about US$41,155.69 per kilogram. One gram costs about $38. At this price, a talent (33 kg) would be worth about $1,400,116.57.

I weigh unofficially 173 pounds. Just sayin'.

I don't have many talents but am surrounded by lots of talent, some of who must remain in the background, hardly to be seen, yet lurkin'...

and maybe even stalkin'...

More Blood, More Tracks is slow, largely solo, and set in its ways like a sullen dude reading Chekhov in the corner of the bar.

I dig the quote, but... question, "Why critics?". Ha! Why do I post at a taco stand.

The critics said Bob sold out, when he went electric. Some said the western years were regrettable. He even got born again.

I wondered, in the 80's, was that one of the most radical things he's ever done? Did his new compadres try to listen to his songs...

Everyone has a voice. Some have to be heard? Bob had to be Bob.

Hey what do you get when you throw the new pick-up in reverse & step on the gas in front of the closed garage door, without looking back?

A sizable knott on the noggin, & a pissed off wife!

the next door neighbor didn't look, he's not a thinking man,
but he is my best next door neighbor, and as big a one as I am.
We get along by avoiding one another.
He is the Original home owner around here & remembers when there were acres of thick woods all around.
This was from the `70s till the early `90s before the McMansions explosion.
When he could hunt at will from stand or blind and kill kill kill
A sawed off angry postal worker, it was a good release for him.

When we moved in he and his wife quizzed us on why the taxes didn't rise.
His take away was to gut the four-square floor plan, to go open floor plan. No walls but the master & the bath(ah'course)
So also getting a reassessment, in his favor.

Spending $$ on a raised ranch on a slab at the bottom of a steep hill.
That is no problem unless the drought ends
- it has-
he had to trench around the front and side of the house add truck loads
of gravel; an expensive "french-drain".

We were the 1st newcomers that he chose to try to get along with, a bit of a scary thing, he goes on a crack(?)bender from time to time. Last night at dinner time I was surprised by the dog barking and his wife Liz cutting through the hedge.

The 2 wives talked, and I kept cooking, a score of a roast beef for pot roast, that I was slicing into a stew, not cubes, that can cause a dental issue.

So it seems that Gary had pushed the door out of its tracks, Somehow the overhead door opener hit him in the head when he got out of the truck.
The 2 women made it much worse by performing excellently in the face of this mess. Pulling inward on the door & moving the truck back in; a competent rescue.

Gary's wife Liz can not stand me. I show up all the time acting like a perfect husband & father.
Then I never go to the bar with the rest of the streets ole'dadz, I do make the effort show up at their next door neighbors house for all the sports, even sometimes The final 4.

Liz was adamant that I was not needed, strangely, she was the same way when they claimed that they'd been robbed.
In that case the "Breaking & entering" was a shifty deal. not one of his guns stolen, & again my wife was invited to be a witness.
I think both incidents are insurance plays*, - *Hey 'scams' is not a neighborly word.
So what do you think his take will be? besides a wobbly pick up?

So be glad you don't live near Ron out in Mound City, okay?
Or have neighbors like his'n.I saw them today at a demonstration, pinot noir in their hands.'
They told me about all their frustrations, 'n how they like empty garbage cans.
