The Parade of Life Is Too Short

Corn dogs 99 cents!

Balloons 2 for a buck!

Life is one big parade
with a lot of clowns
and it's not going where it should
one unit following another
into the firmament
dodging the rainbow on its left
stepping lively now
in front of the reviewing stand
filled with winged beings
slinging flowers at the bands
waving wildly at the floats
made from real clouds and starlight
piloted by blindfolded clowns
honking horns and squeezing bladders.

It’s all colors and marching music for blocks
and everyone is having fun
except I know the parade must end sometime
and I wonder who will win
the Grand Marshal’s trophy
--probably some clown
in a gray flannel cloud.

Do clouds resemble flannel?
What, exactly, is flannel?
And if you can tell me about seersucker
that would be appreciated.

Yes, the parade is definitely off course.

My bookstore lady, Alissa, is taking the lead in Shakespeare's play Taming of the Shrew as Katerina. I won't be here to see it, as I'm moving that day to Jamestown. The play's run begins Friday night just around the corner from here at the MAC.

What hurts, too, is that another lead, the role of Petrucchio, was won by Greg Ruelas, Alissa's roommate. Greg was a high schooler when he worked at BDalton Bookseller with me, so he goes back in my life even further than Alissa.

So break a leg, you two!

What else did I learn strolling Main this morning?

Aha! The Stone Bowl, a head shop located across Main from the used bookstore where Alissa works, has closed. I'm surprised it lasted nearly two years, but let's face it, downtown is a bad retail location. Downtown retail is in a fix. It might be better, but I sure don't know what to do other than buy local when I shop.

Today's Shopper is lazy and demands short walks from auto to store, not a hike around half a block long and maybe a wait for a light to change at an intersection. Poor coddled buyers. Oh, and the prices a downtown retailer has to charge to meet the landlord's outrageous rent cancel out any service the shop may offer free of charge. It's a losing game. Most stores never break even and fold in a year or two, destroying dreams and our culture along with it.

The video killed the TV shows.

The strip malls and mega-malls are killing our downtowns.

But your head's in the mountains, so don't give it another thought.

Go! And take your little brother with you.

maybe you could crash a dress rehearsal, offer your photog services?
alissa ... was the key to getting zeroed in on your 10-20

edit: the first time thru,
the visual cues in your posted photos were not sufficiently distinctive in my memory
to begin the search for you up at the hotel tioga vs. el capitan hotel,
so i resorted to an inquiry at the bookstore to find you,
alissa was nice enough to narrow it down

How did she do that? I'm not following you, come back.

EDIT: Okay, got that, good buddy. Back end of the bookstore is on the right edge of that fine aerial view. That's a much younger Merced pictured.

I'm in present location limbo, at any rate.

There's no way the second hand store is going to buy my bunkbed w/o mattresses. They sent someone over to look and he figured the costs of having to get mattresses outweighed my low price demand of fifty simolians.

I'll have to call Goodwill tomorrow and arrange a pickup Friday morning. Then there's a TV, too. I'll have to leave it next to the dumpster because the recycler I called hasn't called back.

All these details to attend to...change of address, bank account, god knows what...it's nice to be able to vent...
but I'd rather be cheerful!!!!!!

Out Out Out
(in memory of Richard)

Locker, his glassy eyes blinking,
Like a pair of crystal clear marbles in ultraviolet light
Visions filling his vision
Turning his thoughts to ones and zeros
And his dick to stone.

Bold faced and crude, hard not to like
Out in the sun but not wearing da Brim
While sitting next to the warm glue pot
Watching a hard-on develop between his legs
Made me violently sick
And ruin my newly resoled shoes.

I am crushed to bits
And my posts deleted
Dirt is cast in my face
And the dogs chase me off

I see you now from a few dimensions removed
The empty room here is filling
I later canvassed the area
Found ghosts of norwegian and fattrad and gnome
But Pena was nowhere to be found
With her sore toe.

And, probably still hearing sounds not there
But still too loud, Locker was there, complaining,
“I’m tired of working, man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

And with toilet tissue stuck to one of my newly resoled shoes
I carefully leave the toilet stall
Now filled with greenish blobs
That move in jellied heaves
And sound just like fat people making whoopie.

A few people hang around in the lobby of the Extravaganza Casino,
Breathing normally and enjoying the scene.

But Pena exclaims, limping in with a sore toe,
"That’s the same damned raspberry smell I smelled before!"

Mouse, I was just thinking . . . it's going to be interesting to see all your new photography in a new environment. Your photography is often harmonic, sometimes challenging, but never boring. Thank you for that as well as for all the beauty of your work. I hope you will find as much beauty and human interest in your new venue as you have in Merced, and continue to share it with us.

Hard grit boulder king in Peek District.

So this climber dies in a climbing accident and of course he goes straight to Hell.

As he is walking through Hell with the Devil to his appointed station he sees this other climber whom he knows that also just died.

However, this climber has in his arms a gorgeous naked woman.

He turns to the Devil and asks "What’s up with that, how come this scumbag has this beautiful woman in his arms?"

The Devil turns to him and says, "Never you mind, that woman’s punishment is my concern."

On sister Lenna's deck this morning (above Sonora but below Twain-Harte).

Snow on the radar yesterday was real...just not a lot of it.

Well, this junkshow is on the road tomorrow, loading to commence @ 9 a.m. The bunkbed is staying, I guess. It's a shame, but it looks like Goodwill will have to come take it away. Or something. I'm not gonna lose sleep on it tonight.

The road closure on La Grange Road is still in effect, meaning a long detour out to Montpelier Road to intersect 120 at Oakdale and then right up into the hills and Jamestown. I'm guessing it will add a total of two hours to the round trip. We need to drop off a sewing machine to Laurie P's new apt before leaving town, too. We'll load it last.

Yo check may not be in d'mail

Authorities dug up the frozen mail bundles and transported them to the LaPorte Post Office. An estimated 11,000 pieces were recovered, court documents said.

The Postal Service began an investigation thereafter, with Block revealed to be the assigned carrier of the mail.

At first, Block reportedly told police he was not involved in the matter. But when later shown 150 pieces of the recovered mail, he said, “Looks like I’m going to jail,” according to court documents.
