I'm actually quite a good grower. I grew a Jacaranda from a pod.

It is interesting that some municipalities are banning outdoor growing altogether, while others are charging exhorbitant fees for indoor growing. Not mutually exclusive.

Anyway, a mechanism for how alcohol can (and does) cause cancer has now been documented. It gets in your genes.

Anybody up there in the Valley know the phrases:

No chuck (sometimes - no chuck, ace)
You really got a lotta hair

Different Chuck, but no chuck, it really is Chuck

Coming To Grips With a Touchy Problem

We can come to an agreement, I am sure.
Given enough time and enough words.
Given enough time to elucidate and to verbalize our thoughts.
Given enough effort to avoid doublespeak and cant.
Having listened carefully to each other’s utterances
and conversing politely like gentle persons.
Having tolerated one another’s gibberish and garbled sentences.
Deleting from our minds the nawmeans and the lemme says.
Being hip to the palavering of patois, pidgin, argot, lingua franca and slang.
Nodding and raising eyebrows and using some hand gestures.
Watching the babble turn to meaningful ideas.
We can chit-chat some more over lunch.
Leave the phones off.
Sit in a corner booth.
Clam up when the server comes.
Take off our sunglasses and look each other in the eyes.
And maybe, just maybe, we can decide whether to walk or ride to the debate.
Saved from drowning in the bath.

The poor hardcover is not trade-in-able any longer. It is now a bit thicker, caused by pages swelling.

Glad it wasn't a radio.

Speaking of bewks...

McCann can do it, but not without help. Karen's book is coming in a few days.

WOMEN OF THE AMERICAN RESISTANCE
YOU ARE THE ONE WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR
Karen McCann

In the midst of the #metoo movement and the run-up to the Women’s March 2018, activist and bestselling author Karen McCann has published a book designed to galvanize even more of America’s women into action.

“Outraged? You should be,” McCann says. “Wish you could do something about it? You can!”

Recent research shows that together we are strong enough to put the brakes on this train wreck. How? That’s what Women of the American Resistance is all about. Here are the research findings, roadmap, and practical tools needed to transform sympathetic onlookers into engaged activists.

Read remarkable stories of ordinary American women stepping up to the challenges of our extraordinary times.

Learn how to connect with dozens of high-impact progressive organizations seeking volunteers right now.

Discover why you are the one we have been waiting for.

ORDER BOOK ON AMAZON

A year ago, McCann was a travel writer and bestselling memoir author; her travel tips and adventure stories have appeared in Huffington Post, International Living Magazine, New York Daily News, Los Angeles Times, and Lonely Planet. After the 2016 election, she put that job on the back burner to work for the Resistance doing organizing and mobilization. Being a storyteller by trade, she began producing articles, videos, and now this book to speak out against abuses of power and explore ways each of us can impact our collective future.

Accomazzo: The headbands were utilitarian—style was certainly secondary.
We all had long hair, and when you’re climbing you’ve got to keep it out of your eyes.
You wear these white pants so they reflect the sun and they’re noticeably cooler when you’re up on a hot Yosemite wall.
So white pants and headbands were de rigueur, but they had a prime utilitarian purpose.

Graham: We were definitely inspired by the Bruce Lee character.
He was so inspiring because he was so athletic.
What you could see him do was just mind-boggling, and we all would apply those ideas to climbing.

for what its worth this video needs to be skipped.

The picture heading the video is of Ed Brandes.

add Eddy to your vast accumulation OF WORTHY SOULS

A fine man whos' story is brushed out, (only a bit - itz cool)

It shows some scenes of New Paltz, from 1990, at 15;14 minutes in,

where starts an interview of The Sweet Street Sweeper, of New Paltz,
& my old friend, Ed.
It is hard to watch, and all most impossible to understand

F, Good on'ya Eddy!
You were the palette of the unseen artist.
the supreme poetry of the extreme life you lived,
a forever forgotten story.

Guild Of Poets

The poet of mud
sets his pots of goo
out before him
and people walk past
looking at their futures
but they are in earth tones
too murky and indistinct
to be recognizable

The cave poet
paints underground comics
and charges free admission
but you must be a tourist
from the future
no torches please in the cave
and wear minimal clothing
and take nothing too seriously

The poet of the aged
knows when to be silent
and what not to compose
for he is just another elder
reliving the time he spent
living as a younger man
with his future all bright and golden

The poet guarding secrets
stares blankly at the fire
hardly ever blinking
shaking his head side to side
and then up and down
until the fire burns itself out
and then gets up and goes home

The poet of the gods
really has nothing to say
that humans will understand
and so we skip him
and besides he calls himself
a priest but he’s just a fakir

The poet is as much a part of life
as the shaman
or the midwife
or the hunter
or the mentor
or the parents
or the artists*

There's a splendid rain here this morning.

I've got to get to the store for pain relievers.

There's been a constant nagging ache in the left upper leg,
much like a charlie horse, for two nights "running" (haha)
and I forgot to buy a new supply of Tylenol or the like when at the store two nights back.

Fortunately, at the Cinema this morning, breakfast was on the house,
thanks to mein host, Gerardo, so I'm calling a taxi.

IF there is a god, HE may be watching out for me.

Hope you are over the worst of your illness, DMT.

Cheers to YOU, nawmean?
