Having just talked to Cosmici, who is in a like position--
his body rebelling and his backbone yelling "Stop, no mo'!"--
it behooves us all to lament the passing of pissing well,
the brittleness of bones,
the failure of our hearts,
and the cold fact that our circulation is leaky,
never warms us like it did,
and keeps us from circulating among the herd.

We fall behind and are eaten by the wolves, the coyotes, and the rest of the carrion crew.

Nice job, Mr. Sorenson.

Well for me it's easier to get down than to get up.

Maybe that's why I preferred skiing.

Anyway, keep a good head and always carry a light bulb, or at least let the sun shine in your back door somedayz.

Bushman,
I flew Alpine World up here with me, 'cause I don't yet have a printer here. A copy of Alpine World is now on the Wall of Fame at Fair Hall in Fairbanks.

Alpine World was read during a small celebration and several toasts with champagne. Everyone wants to be on your next expedition to Alpine World.

Then we read it as the Ultimate in Alpine Stories. Better than Murray. And we noted it as worthy of an award such as one might give to The Ascent Rum Doodle. I hope to see more stories about Alpine World.

Thank you.

Thanks Feralfae, I feel honored!
OK, I bumped an Alpine World sequel up on my list.
Maybe it will help to bring back winter, ha ha!

Wow, Gnome with those mystical surrealistic retouched photos of light. Camera wizardry, no doubt. Very dramatic and pleasing. Obviously otherworldly. Thank you Gnome.

Bushman, those mountains in the new image look entirely unglaciated, even in the valley. Is Alpine World a low-gravity planet where snow surrenders to sublimation because it is too cold for melting? I am looking forward to the sequel. Oh, speaking of water, that is Waterman on Hunter next to your poem.

And you, Mouse, with fairies dancing and pottery to make a potter and archaeologist smile. Here at Fair Hall, I'm unpacking, resting, then going out to do yard work for a couple of hours. My flowers have all bloomed while I was in Montana, so I am smiling at the beauty.

Off to the rest of the day.

Here's what I've been viewing on Netflix. Season one of The Last Kingdom, a BBC America production. Season two has been taken over by Netflix.

Bernard Cornwell is the author of the Saxon Books, as well as a whole library of other historical fiction, usually written in many volumes about one subject. They are among my favorite stories.

I'd recommend the Marco Polo series on Netflix, as well, for any history buff.

The Puppies of Mars
or
(Ain't evolution grand?)

Deimos and Phobos with me in the park
Catching the frisbee 'till way after dark
Memories of earth linger treacherously on
But uninhabitable meant death
Time to move or we're gone

When the sun finally comes up my fur is a'frost
My toes almost frozen and toenails near lost
My robo cam focusses with my third eye
As dust storms are blowing bad so I could die

To the Valles Marineris the Grand Canyon was a ditch
But these Martian winters can be a real bitch
And breathing fresh air is still something I miss
My suit is leaking again
Got any duct tape?
Hissssssssssss...

I hope the compliment landed wheels down , rudder 'n flaps up.. . is clean landing still a valid description??

I was just saying below a " Oak Tree", Go Up And Right, just the facts, make it into the guide.
Less is more - do I need to point out the deadly drop or the tree to set you top rope on ?
It seems to me to be stating the OBVIOUS, don't miss it ? What ? The climbing .
Do I need to say there is a hidden ledge down a step after the second chimney, where ther is the only pin, a directional to top rope off a tyrolean line so getting a rope down two sides of a split cleft 80 feet five or six climbs . What about , Nine climbs ranging in difficulty depending
In lent hug , steepness & style of ascent.? Blah blah blah . ..

How is our friend Emma-dogy doing ?
As a thing I know the troubling underlying rumble.
Love to you and her

Remembering her all loving - loving all
And make you wonder at it,
almost . . .
you grasp that most strange man-god-dog link
Thinking of Ema dog today, Peace.

Oh the Nerve

I'm here for a bit
Then out the door
To work some more
107 degrees today
I'm on my way
Otherwise

Not much to say
Not much I say

Luke has tumors on his leg
Next week they're removed
And then biopsied
And we shall know
If they're serious or not

Then we will know
Then we shall know

Emma's on a new insulin
She's blind as a bat
But loves me so
I'll check her numbers on Saturday
The we will see

How it will go
How it shall go

It seems that life
Is full of curves
My dogs are my children
They don't deserve
The sh#t life serves
Most of us don't
But we draw on reserves

Oh the nerve
Yes the nerve

Where you can see just a slight flag of green.

Alpine World

On a glaciated planet
We stepped off the massive burgshrund
On diamond cut and icy granite
Reaching to one hundred forty thousand ft.
Below an aurora borealis
Green above the glacier rivers
Below mighty frosted sawtooths
And escarpments beyond our dreams

After sixty thousand feet
Our bivy a cavernous snow cave
Full of creatures of no comfort
As the blizzards sealed the opening
For a year and seven months

Tunneling out five hundred yards
Between overhangs below snow towers
We fired off all our cannons
And buried ourselves in icy holes
To avalanche the route above

Three weeks later finally summiting
Our rope burns some scabbed some raw
Attesting three hundred foot falls
And an ordeal beyond all measure
A first ascent on a foreign world
Which we thought would spell our end
But none of us had fallen prey
To the ice gods down below
