Wish it was a shark - it's from a puffer. Cebu in the Phillipines I think. I've got an eyeballie harbor seal shot though that's pretty cool. I'll try to hunt it down.

Keeping with the sharky theme...

The shot was taken at 22mm wide-angle, so this particular fish had perturbed my comfort zone a bit; I was prepared to bop it in the snout with my camera dome. Galapagos Shark, 2.5m (8ft), Galapagos Islands.

Great white shark hanging out by Aptos cement ship
A great white shark was seen swimming around the cement ship in Aptos at Seacliff State Beach this week.

The shark was spotted there on Saturday and Wednesday, and people who saw it estimated it was 8-9 feet long.

Sean Van Sommeran, director of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation in Santa Cruz, confirmed that the ocean animal was a great white shark. Van Sommeran said the shark appears to have an abrasion on its head.

Beach-goer Manuel Partida shot video of the great white. VIDEO: Great white shark swims around cement ship

It turns out that great whites are fond of Aptos' cement ship, where recreational fishermen often fish from a pier leading to the ship.

"We see them there every season, maybe even same individuals," Van Sommeran said.

Sharks are people too.

A flightless bird, and not very adept on land either. But a master of the Ocean.

TJI - I've got a Nikon D7000, in a naughty cam housing, use to have Sea&Sea strobes but switched to ikelites (160s) (the S&S's cycle WAY to slow for sharks). Lens wise tokina (10-17mm fisheye), 60 and 105 macro lenses, zen glass mini dome, plus diopters, plus sola focus light. Also have some shots from an lumix lx5 in a ike housing, plus some way old film stuff from old S&S cameras, and a gopro. My GF just got an 5DMIII (I have sensor envy).

I'll post up some more stuff this weekend - all my stuff is at home. Hopefully I'll find the GWS (great white) in Aptos!!!!
