I love the East coast Back country Blog!

Thanx for including the second Trapp Dike thread !

I was lucky to survive Three cold winters in Saranac Lake, Back before I could afford Gortex.

Paul Smiths college was the crucible for lots of hard core skiing! & climbing!

Steve Shea,
I'm going to give you a tele response to your points.

1. I enjoy not pressuring the front of my boot. The human stance is on the base of our feet. I would equate it to surfers choosing not to strap in. You could argue that the largest and gnarliest will be surfed with straps but I don't think that reflects the heart of surfing.

2. The knee issues and back strain that you complain about comes from alpine skiing. Anectotally, the local orthopedist's don't do much work on tele skiers.

3. That leads to your points on peak performance athletics. Great tele skiing is done with the legs bent very little. This allows the precision pressuring just at the moment needed while flying freely above the terrain. The Alpine performance comes at the price of never being in a natural position. Alpine skiing requires "the position" at all times.
When I alpine ski I feel like my ass is in the seat of a fighter jet. When I tele ski I feel like a laughing dancing wizard with jets beneath my feet.
