Big thanks for all the helpful suggestions! Just to summarize for others looking for guidance…. in summary: there are lot's of options for back country skiing day trips from the Fresno area!!!

1. Huntington Lake to Kaiser Pass and you can ski off of this road in the Kaiser Wilderness or south of Huntington Lake.

2. Rancheria Falls is about a 2 mile ski in and has easy ice climbing in the right conditions.

3. Rock Creek Road is closed in the winter and is a nice ski trip out to Bald Mountain overlooking Shaver Lake.

4. Giant Forest (trails)

5. Grant Grove (trails)

6. Alta Peak and the high country up to the Tablelands.

7. Badger Pass -- Glacier Point, Dewey point and up to Ostrander hut.

8. SW Yosemite area (lots of options in the)

9. A Sequoia grove just above Oakhurst (if the snow comes down that low)

10. Pear Lake

11. Wolverton down to Lodgepole (tree skiing).

12. Giant Sequoia Groves.

13. Scott’s (micronut) secret stash (1:15 from fresno)

14. Table Lands.

15. Red Mountain behind the China Peak ski area

16. Shuteye (sled required)

17. Mineral King

I am excited to hear about so many options! You Fresno folks are fortunate! Looking forward to spending time with ya'll. Thanks everyone!

Is it realistic to think you could live in Tollhouse and work in Fresno 3 shifts a week? I see what google maps tells me drive wise, and I've actually done the drive once, but I don't really remember it much. Maybe that's a good thing? Is it reasonable?
Easy drive especially if you choose to work at Clovis Community Hospital

ya'll make living in Fresno sound awesome.
25 years in the foothills, 20 years in the bay, I'd take Fresno (or Trona for that matter) over the Bay any day.

14 inches at the cabin near Grant's Grove in Kings Canyon! Uh, I mean 35 centimeters or 3.5 hands or something...

It's early but I'm gonna go ahead and get my hopes up for a great winter! (or at least an average winter)

This season started out so promising, and we had high hopes....still hanging on...but damn, snow already.
